Ringo Starr Adds Fall Leg Onto All Starr Band Tour

Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band have added an 18-show fall leg to their upcoming tour. The new dates kick off on September 23rd at Bridgeport, Connecticut's Hartford Healthcare Amphitheatre, and wind down south of the border with a pair of gigs on October 19th and 20th at Mexico City's Auditorio Nacional.

The 2022 All Starr Band features an all-veteran lineup with Edgar Winter, Toto's Steve Lukather, Men At Work's Colin Hay, along with percussionist Warren Ham, drummer Gregg Bissonette, and Hamish Stuart from the Average White Band -- and a longtime Paul McCartney sideman.

Ringo said in a statement, "It is so great to finally announce all these shows we had planned for 2020, and I am really looking forward to playing them! How great to start at Casino Rama, where we've begun 5 All Starr tours, and then to go back to the Beacon, and to the Greek, which was the last show we played in 2019 on our 30th Anniversary tour. I can't wait to see all our fans and until then I'm sending everyone peace and love and see you soon!"

We caught up with Ringo prior to launching the last string of All Starr summer shows and asked him if he's getting excited to spend another season on the road: "Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. It's exciting. Every time I put the All Starr's together, we end up in a room in some country -- we like to call it 'rehearsals' and, we all know what we're supposed to do, we get on with it, and we have a lot of fun. That's the only rule I have; do you wanna have fun in the summer? Then let's go. I'm not here to be tortured."

Selena Gomez Tells Body Shamers She's 'Perfect' The Way She Is

Selena Gomez clapped back at body shamers by letting them know she's "perfect" the way she is.

The 29-year-old singer said on TikTok Sunday (April 10th), "So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich.

"But honestly, I don't care about my weight because people b***h about it anyway: 'You're too small.' 'You're too big.' 'That doesn't fit.' 'Meh meh meh meh.'"

She added, "B***h, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye"

The Black Crowes Salute 1972 With New EP

The Black Crowes will release a new covers EP on May 4th, via Amazon Music, titled 1972. Glide magazine reported the band tracked the tunes back in January 2022 at L.A.'s famed Sunset Sound, with the project's first single -- a new take on the Temptations' "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone" out now. The other songs on the set are the Rolling Stones' "Rocks Off," T-Rex's "The Slider," Rod Stewart's "You Wear It Well," Little Feat's "Easy To Slip," and David Bowie's "Moonage Daydream."

Crowes frontman Chris Robinson said of the new collection, "The year 1972 was a watershed moment, some of the greatest rock and roll songs ever made came out of that year. To get our band back together in the studio, it had to be a celebration of rock n' roll. This record is about love and devotion to something that makes us feel good. We hope that it makes fans around the world feel the same."

On May 4th at 10:00 pm ET, the Black Crowes will be performing the EP live from the historic Whiskey a Go-Go in Los Angeles via Amazon Music's channel on Twitch. The date also marks the 50th anniversary of a legendary Little Feat performance at the famed venue in 1972.

Contrary to popular belief, Rich Robinson and his older brother, Chris, were not retro-obsessed Southern rock apostles while growing up: "Chris and I never sat down and said, 'We're gonna be in a band.' Like, we just started doin' it. We went through our little punk rock phase for about six months, and then it's easy to grow out of that -- 'cause we grew up in a really rich musical household, 'cause of my dad. So once we started getting into R.E.M., which spoke to us, 'cause we weren't into southern rock. We never associated ourselves with that. R.E.M. spoke to us, more because it was so unique sounding. When I first heard 'Radio Free Europe' on the radio, I was like. . . I'd never heard anything like that."

Billy Ray Cyrus' Wife Tish Cyrus Files For Divorce

Tish Cyrus filed for divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus last week in Tennessee citing irreconcilable differences, according to TMZ. They have been married for almost 30 years and together have five children, including pop star Miley Cyrus.

According to documents, Tish and Billy Ray haven't lived together in more than two years. Tish is requesting that all marital assets be equally distributed.

This marks the third time the Cyrus' have filed for divorce. Billy Ray first filed in 2010, however it was called off. Tish filed in 2013, and that was also called off.

Colin Hay Says Men At Work Wasn't Built To Last

Men At Work leader and chief songwriter Colin Hay explained that the Grammy Award-winning original group was not destined to make old bones. Hay, who'll be out on the road this summer as part of a triple bill headed up by Rick Springfield and also featuring John Waite, will be billed as he periodically does under the Men At Work moniker.

While chatting with Ultimate Classic Rock, Colin Hay shed light on how by the time of only the third Men At Work album, the group was already falling apart fast, recalling, "The initial band and the people who were in it wasn't really destined to stand the test of time. But the music has, which I'm very grateful for. The music keeps resonating over the decades. I play the songs with the current band that I have at the moment, and everyone responds to it in the same way that they always have. Y'know, you can't really tell if your music has any kind of timeless quality to it unless a certain amount of time goes by. I love playing those songs. I always love playing them and I still do."

Hay, who performs both as a solo act and as part or Ringo Starr's All Starr Band, added: "I've made a lot of records since then, but I'm happy to go out on this tour and just play Men at Work material, because it's incredible to play and I love playing the songs. The audiences seem to love it as well."

Back in 1985 while promoting Men At Work's third and final album, Two Hearts, Colin Hay explained to MTV how the band was pared down to a duo on three years after Grammy success: "It's like a marriage, you've been married to five people at once, y'know? There's bound to be a couple divorces along the way, y'know? So, we parted company last year and the three of us, Greg (Ham), and Ron (Strykert), and myself wanted to keep going -- and so, that's what we did and we made Two Hearts. And then the prospect of touring and getting mobilized again -- I don't think Ron was very keen on that, so he bailed out and went to Greece. So, it's just me and Greg Ham left, for all intents and purposes."

Colin Hay performs tonight (April 12th) in New York City at City Winery.

Harry Styles' New Single 'As It WAs' Tops Charts And Achieves Streaming Records

Yes Drummer's Legendary Drum Kit Stolen

Legendary Yes drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Alan White has had one of his most priceless drum kits stolen from him. NBC News' local affiliate King 5 spoke to the drummer's wife, Gigi White, who revealed that the thieves found personal documents that led them directly to White's Newcastle, Washington storage unit. The storage space housed White's iconic early-'70s drum kit he used on George Harrison's 1970 All Things Must Pass and John Lennon's 1971 Imagine albums -- including the iconic title track, as well as Lennon's 1970 classic hit, "Instant Karma (We All Shine On)."

White's friend, the late-Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins, also once played the kit during a local charity event. Gigi explained, "We found out on Friday, on March 25th, that the kit was missing, and Taylor had passed. So we were, I guess, maybe numb. A little numb, shell shocked. (Taylor) was so loved. I don't know a person who knew him who did not absolutely love and adore him including us."

She went on to say: "I would love to get the kit back, of course, for Alan. I really don't care about anything else. It is part of his heart. I mean, that's his history. I still am hopeful that with so many people looking and watching and caring that we might get it back."

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call law enforcement. The King County Sheriff's office non-emergency number is (206) 296-3311.

Alan White recalled his break of a lifetime in 1969 when he got the call to perform with John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival: "I was so young -- I was only 20-years-old -- so, basically I was going through a whirlwind of things all within 24 hours. From getting the phone call from John, a car picking me up and all of a sudden, I was at London airport, and he said, 'Oh, I forgot to tell you -- Eric Clapton's playing guitar.' I went, 'Oh, wow (laughs).' Actually, it was all, pretty much over, before I realized what had gone down, y'know? It was one of those kinda things."

Flashback: Jan Berry Hits 'Dead Man's Curve'

It was 56 years ago today (April 12th, 1966), that Jan Berry of Jan & Dean suffered a horrendous car crash that left him brain damaged and severely disabled for the rest of his life. Berry was speeding on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and crashed his Stingray into a parked truck. The wreck was so horrific, and Berry's injuries so severe, that the first paramedics on the scene actually thought Berry was dead before they checked his vital signs and found a weak pulse.

After numerous brain operations, Berry spent six weeks in coma and awoke severely brain damaged, unable to speak, and completely paralyzed on his right side. Friends and family credited Berry's infamous ego, which enabled him -- although tremendously handicapped -- to return to the recording studio the next year to work on material for a long-unreleased Jan & Dean project, Carnival Of Sound.

Fans have long referred to the patch of Sunset Boulevard near Whittier Boulevard as "Dead Man's Curve," after the Jan & Dean hit which was eerily released just-over two years before the crash. In the years since the accident, the city of Beverly Hills has made the curve much safer for motorists, and the actual site of the crash is now part of a park.

Berry, who had been the creative force behind all the duo's hits, including "Surf City," "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena," and the foreboding "Dead Man's Curve," persevered throughout his setbacks and never stopped recording music, up through the late-1990's.

In 1978, hot on the heels of the TV movie Deadman's Curve, which chronicled Berry's ordeal, he and Dean Torrence officially reunited to open for the Beach Boys, and continued to tour until 2004.

Jan Berry died in March 2004 from a brain seizure, one week shy of his 63rd birthday.

The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean enjoy a long and combined history. Beach Boy Bruce Johnston remembers his teenage days in the 1950's growing up in Bel Air with the late Jan Berry: "He would come to my house every morning and we'd play doo wop songs for 15 or 20 minutes -- he just lived up the street -- and then we'd take the school bus to high school."

Beach Boys co-founder David Marks told us that Berry's accident curtailed a major talent: "He didn't have a fair chance to express himself and to get his music out. He was just starting off. I mean, 'Jennie Lee' and 'Baby Talk' -- that was genius. Right at the time in the '50s, that was typical rock n' roll."

A while back, the late, great Glen Campbell, who played on the majority of Jan & Dean hits, told us that unlike Berry's contemporaries Phil Spector and Brian Wilson, Berry personally notated the score for the studio musicians to play: "Oh Jan, Jan was brilliant. He wrote everything out. He wrote notes out, all the chord progressions out. It didn't matter what it was.'"

Recently published is Hollywood Eden: Electric Guitars, Fast Cars, And The Myth Of The California Paradise by legendary writer Joel Selvin. Selvin traces the early days of the L.A. rock scene, and charts the course of key L.A. players -- Phil Spector, Lou Adler, Brian Wilson, and Jan Berry, among others. Selvin explained how stars aligning at just the right moment in Southern California allowed Jan Berry to leave his mark: "It's a really amazing time and place for those teenagers. It was just an extraordinary set of coefficients. All those things they did were possible then. In a very short time, they would no longer be possible. Jan Berry walking into a recording studio to get a dub for three bucks -- the first time he'd ever even been inside a recording studio. And some guy hears him and follows him home to see, y'know, exactly what he's doing. And the next thing you know: bing, bang, boom -- he's on the charts."

Recently released is Carnival Of Sound -- the long-unreleased album from 1966 and 1967 that Berry was working on both prior to and after his car accident.

Ed Sheeran Recording Songwriting Sessions In Wake Of Copyright Lawsuit

Recent claims of plagiarism have caused Ed Sheeran to begin filming all of his songwriting sessions.

The singer told the BBC, "Now I just film everything, everything is on film. We've had claims come through on the songs and we go, ‘Well here's the footage and you watch. You'll see there's nothing there.'"

He says that being sued for copyright infringement has tainted the sonwriting process, adding,

"I personally think the best feeling in the world is the euphoria around the first idea of writing a great song.

"That feeling has now turned into 'oh wait, let's stand back for a minute'. You find yourself in the moment, second-guessing yourself."

Last week (April 6th), London's High Court ruled in favor of Sheeran and said that he had not "deliberately or subconsciously" copied the work of Sami Switch for 2017's Shape of You.

Julian Lennon Performs 'Imagine' In Solidarity With The Ukraine

On Friday (April 8th), which was also his 59th birthday, Julian Lennon sang his father, John Lennon's global peace anthem "Imagine" for the first time publicly as part of Global Citizen's Stand Up For Ukraine. Julian, who over the years has turned down countless requests to perform his father's best-loved solo song, sang the 1971 classic on video, accompanied by Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt on acoustic guitar and harmony vocals.

Julian posted a message on his YouTube page under the video:

The War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy…

As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could. So today, for the first time ever, I publicly performed my Dad's song, IMAGINE.

Why now, after all these years? – I had always said, that the only time I would ever consider singing ‘IMAGINE' would be if it was the ‘End of the World'…

But also because his lyrics reflect our collective desire for peace worldwide. Because within this song, we're transported to a space, where love and togetherness become our reality, if but for a moment in time…

The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for…

As a result of the ongoing murderous violence, millions of innocent families, have been forced to leave the comfort of their homes, to seek asylum elsewhere.

I'm calling on world leaders and everyone who believes in the sentiment of IMAGINE, to stand up for refugees everywhere!

Please advocate and donate from the heart. #StandUpForUkraine

- Julian Lennon

Also on Friday (April 11th), Julian released the first two songs from his upcoming album, titled Jude. Now available for streaming and purchase are the album tracks, "Freedom" and "Every Little Moment." No release date for the album has been announced.

Amazingly, it's been nearly four decades years since Julian Lennon broke on the scene with his late-1984 debut album, Valotte. Julian was recently pressed as to what he thinks his father would make of his music: "I would hope he'd be proud of what I'm doing. It's been a long road, and I seriously consider the art of songwriting a craft -- a very serious craft that I've worked very hard to try and do as well as I possibly can. So, I think he'd see that I'm doing the best I can."

IN OTHER LENNON NEWS

A new officially sanctioned John Lennon biopic is in pre-production. The movie, which is being produced by Yoko Ono and son Sean Lennon, has the approval of both Lennon's eldest son Julian Lennon and the support of the Beatles' company Apple Corps.

According to Showbiz411.com, "Anthony McCarten, who wrote the ginormous hit about Freddie Mercury and Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, has apparently finished the screenplay. . . The movie will be 'mostly' John solo songs although it will include five key Lennon Beatles songs. The producers have access to all Beatles songs if they desire." No title or start date has been announced.

John Lennon considered a true mark of success being able to create his work without the constraints of the music business and/or his detractors: "We've never had any real trouble with self-expression. There's an occasional -- a record will be banned because of some prejudiced about a word, or something. All our demonstrations. . . of what we are and what we stand for have always been done in a way, like the Bed-in and things that people can't really complain about. Although they can wonder what we're doing, so everything that we did is done in such a way as not to get ourselves in some kind of corner, y'know?"

Charlie Puth Drops Breakup Track, 'That's Hilarious'

Charlie Puth released the new track, "That's Hilarious" Friday (April 8th).

The single, produced by Puth and co-written with JCash, was inspired by a painful breakup.

He told his TikTok fans, "I'm really excited for the song to come out, but every time I hear it, I'm kind of brought back to a time that was really, really challenging in my life. I never told people what happened to me and the pain that I went through going through the worst breakup of my life in 2019… I just wanted to throw it under the carpet and start over and surround myself with better people. But this is the hardest song that I ever had to put together, and I'm so excited for you to hear it."

Dead Members Slap Back Against Final Tour Rumors

Fans were in for a surprise when Rolling Stone posted that the Dead & Company's upcoming summer jaunt world be the band's last. The magazine, claiming to repeat sources close to the Dead organization, appeared with egg on its face when co-founder Bob Weir tweeted a link to the article while adding, "News to me. . . " Fellow co-founder Bill Kreutzmann tweeted back to Weir, "Whew. I thought you knew something that I didn't! '#themusicneverstops #wewillsurvive.'"

The band went on to issue a statement: "Dead & Company has made no official decision as to this being their final tour."

Along with Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart, -- the band is rounded out with guitarist John Mayer, former-Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge, and longtime RatDog and Dead sideman, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti.

As far as guitarist Bob Weir is concerned, the Grateful Dead's music has always been reflective of what their audience has been "vibing" back to them on stage: "The Grateful Dead started out as a dance band. We started out in clubs, and we played for people who were on the dance floor. We've always interacted with the people listening to our music -- they give us energy back, we wrap it up, polish it up, or whatever we're gonna do with it, give it back to them, and it's just back-and-forth. To share it, there's something wonderful about that. It's pretty much the closest thing to religion that I find myself doing."

Quick Takes: U2, Graham Nash, Rush, Genesis, Billy Joel

  • U2's Bono and The Edge participated on Friday's (April 8th) Global Citizen's social media rally in support of the Ukraine and other nations in desperate need of aid. The duo performed a rewritten version of its 2000 All That You Can't Leave Behind favorite "Walk On," which was renamed, "Walk On Ukraine."
    • U2 posted on their social media platforms: "The brave people of Ukraine are fighting for their freedom -- and for ours -- in the face of unspeakable violence and an unjust invasion. More than 4 million people, mostly women and children, have had to flee for their lives -- a population nearly the size of Ireland. World leaders must stand up and stand by Ukrainians now. . . those who are fighting and those who have fled. . . and stand with refugees everywhere who have been forced from their homes and their lands. #standupforukraine"

  • Graham Nash has changed the setlist in his recent solo shows to reflect the war in the Ukraine. Nash now opens the concerts with Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young's "Find The Cost Of Freedom," followed by his own solo favorite, "Military Madness," the Crosby-Nash classic "Immigration Man," and the long-unreleased track, "In Your Name."
    • Nash told Ultimate Classic Rock: "I actually changed the beginning of my shows. . . I took a chance because normally you want to come out and do a hit to make them all feel comfortable and get comfortable in their seats and get their jackets off and stuff like that. No, no, no, no. There's stuff going on in the world that everybody is aware of, that everybody wants to escape the news of, but I have to start my show with these songs. I have to say, 'Look, there's something going on here that we need to talk about.'" (Ultimate Classic Rock)

  • Rush has just premiered a previously unreleased version of "Tom Sawyer" set for release on the band's 40th anniversary deluxe edition of 1981's Moving Pictures set for release on Friday (April 15th). The newly unveiled track comes from the band's March 25th, 1981 concert at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens -- now dubbed, Live In YYZ. (Best Classic Bands)

  • During a chat with Rolling Stone, Phil Collins' son and Genesis drummer Nic Collins believes that that his dad will indeed retire after the band's final gig last month: "I think at the moment, he's definitely retired. If you ask me on a serious level, I think that show in London was my dad's last show. But then again, he said that in 2004 and we wound up doing a tour in 2018. You can never be sure, but I also do think that my dad is probably excited about the next step in his life. Music has given him so much, but he's also given so much to it. His career has pretty much determined his life for the past 50 years. I think for him to be able to take a step back and not have that pressure that he's had for decades, I think is going to be nice for him. For me, I think that was that, but who knows?" (Rolling Stone)

  • A new officially released Billy Joel 50th anniversary streaming collection features a half-dozen rarities fans will undoubtedly want to snap up. The new 50-track, 50 Years Of The Piano Man, not only includes the rere 1980 single version of Glass Houses' "Sometimes A Fantasy" -- but a 1994 Boston Gardens take of River Of Dreams' "All About Soul."
    • The main draw are the four tracks recorded on December 5th, 1976 at New London, Connecticut's Palmer Auditorium, which were recorded and videotaped by CBS Records as a promotional concert named, Tonight. The '76 tracks are: "The Ballad Of Billy The Kid," "Summer, Highland Falls," "New York State Of Mind," and "Souvenir."

Flashback: The Beatles' 'Let It Be' Hits Number One

It was 52 years ago today (April 11th, 1970) that the Beatles' "Let It Be," hit Number One. The track, which was the group's final single in America prior to breaking up, was actually over a year old, having been recorded on January 31st, 1969, during the group's ill-fated "Get Back" sessions, which were originally conceived as a TV special chronicling the Beatles' stage comeback. The sessions instead became the Let It Be movie, which revealed the disintegration of the band. "Let It Be," along with its companion piece "The Long And Winding Road," was written by Paul McCartney in late-1968 near the end of the Beatles' "White Album" sessions. He began writing the song after waking from a dream featuring his mother, Mary, who had died of cancer when he was 14.

McCartney recalled the song in his 1997 official biography Many Years From Now, saying, "Mother Mary makes it a quasi-religious thing, so you can take it that way. I don't mind. I'm quite happy if people want to use it to shore up their faith. I think it's great to have faith of any sort, particularly in the world we live in... Looking back on the Beatles' work I'm glad that most of it was a positive force. . . they're such symbols of optimism and hopefulness."

The song featured McCartney on piano and lead vocal, John Lennon on bass and backing vocal, George Harrison on lead guitar and backing vocal, Ringo Starr on drums, and Billy Preston on organ.

Later, in April 1969 and again in January 1970, McCartney overdubbed an electric piano, additional percussion, and vocals with his wife Linda and Apple recording artist Mary Hopkin.

Two months after the song was released as a single, a version of the song remixed by producer Phil Spector, featuring a horn section and a new Harrison guitar solo, was issued on the Let It Be album.

Although the Beatles' late-producer George Martin was largely absent for the production work recorded in the Apple basement during the Let It Be, with Glyn Johns manning the boards for the sessions, Martin was hurt that the band entrusted an outsider like Spector to compile the album rather than himself: "When I heard that John and George had taken the tapes out of Abbey Road (Studios) and given them to Phil Spector to make them work, I felt a betrayal, really."

George Martin received a producer's credit for all three chart-toppers (and their respective B-sides) culled from the Let It Be sessions: "Get Back," "Let It Be," and "The Long And Winding Road." Glyn Johns' name was left off all three singles, and only managed to garner a "thanks" on the back of the Let It Be album.

Despite not getting the credit due him, after all these years, Glyn Johns harbors no bad feelings: "Life's full of disappointments and you have to get over them. I got over that really quickly and left it behind in the dust. It's fine. It wasn't like I was sitting around waiting for them when they rang the phone in the first place and it wasn't like I was sittin' around waiting for my career to be bolstered by them thereafter. And though it was really disappointing, ‘cause I got on great with everybody. Y'know, we had a really good working relationship, I thought. Things don't always work out and you just move on and that's what I did. It's the way things went. Listen, it would've been very nice!" SOUNDCUE

The "Let It Be" single and album was released in the aftermath of John Lennon telling the group in September 1969 that he "wanted a divorce" and was leaving the Beatles: McCartney recalled that although it would be almost seven months before he announced that the band had split, Lennon had already moved on: "After that statement, we then thought, 'Well, give it a couple of months. We may decide. . . I mean it's a little bit of a big act to just breakup like that, let's just give it a couple of months (laughs).' And we talked for a couple of months, and it just never was going to be on. Y'know, I think, largely looking back on it, I think it was mainly John needed the new direction that he just went into headlong, y'know, helter skelter, he went right in there, to do all sorts of stuff he'd never done before -- with Yoko. And, y'know, you can't blame him, 'cause he was that kind of guy, who really wanted to live life and do stuff. Y'know, there was just no holding back with John."

The B-Side of "Let It Be" -- "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" -- featured a backing track recorded in May 1967 during the Magical Mystery Tour sessions with the late Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones playing saxophone. Lennon and McCartney had added their vocals in April 1969.

"Let It Be" ended Simon & Garfunkel's six-week-run at Number One with "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and on April 11th, 1970, the day after McCartney announced he was leaving the Beatles, "Let It Be" topped the chart for the first of two weeks.

Although the Beatles' record label continued to release compilation albums and issue singles throughout the '70s -- including the follow-up Number One single "The Long And Winding Road" -- "Let It Be" stands as the last official single release before the band broke up.

Beginning with Wings' final tour in 1979, "Let It Be" has been one of the Beatles evergreens included in all of McCartney's solo setlists. "Let It Be" has been performed on all of his world tours and at such notable gigs as 1979's The Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea, 1985's Live Aid, his 1999 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and 2001's The Concert For New York City.

Pink Floyd Releases First New Song In 28 Years For Ukranian Aid

Today (April 8th) Pink Floyd have released the new track "Hey Hey Rise Up" in support of the people of Ukraine, The track marks the band's first new music since 1994's The Division Bell. The song features Floyd members David Gilmour and Nick Mason joined by long time bassist Guy Pratt and Nitin Sawhney on keyboards -- along with a vocal performance by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Ukrainian band Boombox. The track, recorded on March 30th, uses Andriy's vocals taken from his Instagram post (https://www.instagram.com/p/Cae5TydPAxh/) of him singing in Kyiv's Sofiyskaya Square.

According to the song's press release, "The song itself 'The Red Viburnum In The Meadow' is a rousing Ukrainian protest song written during the first world war which has been taken up across the world over the past month in protest of the invasion of Ukraine. The title of the Pink Floyd track is taken from the last line of the song which translates as 'Hey hey rise up and rejoice.'"

Gilmour, who has a Ukrainian daughter-in-law and grandchildren said: "We, like so many, have been feeling the fury and the frustration of this vile act of an independent, peaceful democratic country being invaded and having its people murdered by one of the world's major powers."

He went on to shed light on how he became aware of Andriy and his band Boombox: "In 2015, I played a show at Koko in London in support of the Belarus Free Theatre, whose members have been imprisoned. Pussy Riot and the Ukrainian band, Boombox, were also on the bill. They were supposed to do their own set, but their singer Andriy had visa problems, so the rest of the band backed me for my set -- we played 'Wish You Were Here' for Andriy that night. Recently I read that Andriy had left his American tour with Boombox, had gone back to Ukraine, and joined up with the Territorial Defense. Then I saw this incredible video on Instagram, where he stands in a square in Kyiv with this beautiful gold-domed church and sings in the silence of a city with no traffic or background noise because of the war. It was a powerful moment that made me want to put it to music."

While writing the music for the track, David managed to speak with Andriy from his hospital bed in Kyiv where he was recovering from a mortar shrapnel injury. "I played him a little bit of the song down the phone line and he gave me his blessing. We both hope to do something together in person in the future. . . I hope (this song) will receive wide support and publicity. We want to raise funds for humanitarian charities, and raise morale. We want express our support for Ukraine and in that way, show that most of the world thinks that it is totally wrong for a superpower to invade the independent democratic country that Ukraine has become."

Sting Releases New Spanish Version Of 'For Her Love'

Out today (April 8th) is Sting's latest single, "Por Su Amor," a Spanish version of "For Her Love" from his latest album, The Bridge. The song, which teams the Police co-founder with Latin Grammy Award nominee Kurt, features lyric translations from none other than Sting's manager-producer Martin Kierszenbaum. A new video for the song will premiere later today.

We caught up with Sting who told us he's thrilled with how the duet with Kurt turned out. He admitted he's always jumped at the chance to collaborate: "I think there's always something to learn from another artist. Y'know, sharing time with another artist, sharing a microphone, sharing a song -- you learn something, I mean, it's hard to articulate what that is, but, y'know, I'm a student of music, I'm a student of life, so working with other people gets me out of my bubble, if you like, my safe, little bubble, and y'know, I'm there to learn something."

Sting performs on Saturday (April 9th) Caen, France at Zenith Caen.

His next North American date is set for May 4th in Ottawa, Ontario at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Ted Nugent Slams Taylor Hawkins For Being A Drug User

Ted Nugent has taken a pretty broad swipe at late-Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in his online webcast "The Nightly Nuge." The conservative the tea totaling rocker spoke about Hawkins, who died on March 25th at age 50 after suffering an alleged drug overdose in Columbia.

Blabbermouth transcribed some of Nugent's rant on the drummer, in which he said, "It's heartbreaking on so many levels. 50-years-old with a horrible, long-term celebration of substance abuse. I'm not. . . Well, I am casting judgment because substance abuse is selfish. His wife and daughter, they should have been taken into consideration. Is spending time with your wife and daughter more important than getting high or less important than getting high?"

Nugent went on to discuss his connections with various musicians who met their demise from substance abuse , recalling, "I told Jimi Hendrix, I said, 'No, I don't want your dope, and it's gonna kill you, Jimi.' Bon Scott would come to the studio when my band was recording 'Weekend Warriors' out of Miami and AC/DC was coming in (and working on) 'Highway To Hell' -- just phenomenal musical powers. And he'd come in drunk every day with a (bottle of) Jack Daniel's or an Old Grand-Dad (whiskey) and he'd go, 'Hey, Teddy, try some of this.' And he smelled like a diaper. What a talent. What a nice guy. These were all nice guys."

Nugent went on to say, "So, if you loved Taylor Hawkins -- I loved him; I loved the man; I still love him. But I love his wife and daughter more. Because they didn't break his heart; he broke their heart. . . So, God rest Taylor Hawkins's soul and all those stoners and drunks that died prematurely. Thank God for every day you're above ground. Breathe deep, concentrate on the positive and show reverence for your gift of life and your sacred temple. Do not poison your sacred temple. It's that simple."
