Mysterious Bubbling Off California Coast Tied To Meta Fiber Optic Construction
Mysterious water bubbling off Hermosa Beach, California has been identified as construction work for Meta’s fiber-optic project. Residents spotted the unusual bubbling this week, sparking wild theories about submarine activity, blue fin tuna, alien visitors, and even flatulent whales. The explanation proved far less exotic. Rick Devinney, who oversees the contract work, said Meta is preparing to add a fiber-optic line connecting California to Asia in coming months. The bubbling results from air being blown through the lines to test that ducts function properly. Hermosa Beach issued a construction notice on November 6 about the project, warning of street closures along Longfellow Avenue near the shore. However, the city notice did not mention offshore work that would cause the mysterious bubbling phenomenon. (Story URL)
