82,000 Rubber Ducks Race Down The Chicago River
The 2025 Chicago Ducky Derby, an annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois, saw over 82,000 rubber ducks floating down the Chicago River. Spectators and fans were invited to adopt a duck for a $10 donation, with the winning ducks’ adopters receiving prizes such as a Chevy Trailblazer, $2,500 cash, and Chicago Cubs tickets. Organizers reported that this year’s derby raised nearly $600,000 for Special Olympics Illinois, with the funds supporting the organization’s programming that provides opportunities for growth, personal development, and connection through sports, health, and leadership initiatives for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The event also featured live music, food trucks, photo opportunities, and games. After the race, the ducks were removed from the river and will be stored for use in the following year’s Ducky Derby.
