Man Jumps On Moving High-Speed Train In Austria

A risky stunt nearly turned deadly when a 24-year-old Algerian man grabbed onto a high-speed train leaving an Austrian station. As the train departed the Sankt Poelten station, the unnamed man leapt into the space between two carriages and began pounding on the windows, causing the conductor to hit the emergency brake. While it’s unclear exactly how fast the train was traveling, it can reach speeds up to 143 mph. The man miraculously survived the ordeal, but an Austrian Railways spokesperson described his actions as “irresponsible” and warned that such stunts “usually end up with someone dying.” After the emergency stop, the man was able to reboard the train headed to Vienna from Zurich, though he faced a stern rebuke from the conductor. Police then took him into custody upon arrival, 7 minutes late, in Vienna. (Newser)
