Speeding Driver Cited For Fuel Shortage And Safety Violations
A British Columbia driver was slapped with nearly $1,000 in fines after being pulled over for excessive speeding, lack of seatbelt use, and an improperly installed child car seat. The 36-year-old Edmonton man claimed he was traveling at 85 MPH in a 60 MPH zone due to a fuel shortage, which police confirmed when the vehicle ran out of gas on the roadside. In addition to the speeding ticket, the driver received citations for having only 2 of the 9 passengers properly buckled up, and a 3-year-old child in a car seat with non-functioning restraints. The law enforcement officials emphasized that speeding severely reduces fuel efficiency and increases the risk of fatal collisions for unrestrained vehicle occupants. The total fines amounted to $973, plus the cost of arranging alternative transportation. (Story URL)
