Farmer Claims Giant Eagles Are Carrying Away His Ponies

A Scottish farmer believes sea eagles are responsible for the disappearance of several of his Shetland pony foals. Donald John Cameron, who runs an agritourism business with partner Lindsay Robertson on the island of South Uist, says five of his pony foals have gone missing, and he has found no carcasses to explain their fate. Cameron told the BBC that the behavior of the missing foals’ mothers suggests an animal took them away, rather than the foals simply wandering off. While experts are skeptical that sea eagles could carry off the small ponies, the National Sea Eagles Stakeholders’ Panel acknowledged this is the first time they’ve heard of such an accusation. Cameron worries the missing foals will negatively impact his agritourism business that offers pony experiences. (Story URL)
