6-Year-Old Left Alone On School Bus For 30 Minutes Prompts 911 Call

Natalie Sellars of Uniondale, New York, says her 6-year-old son Michael was abandoned on a school bus for nearly 30 minutes after the driver skipped his scheduled stop. Sellars called her son’s emergency cell phone when he failed to arrive home. “He goes, ‘Mom, I’m on a bus by myself, and the bus driver and all the kids are gone.’ I said ‘What?'” Sellars told WCBS. Michael showed his mother the empty bus via video call before she contacted 911. School officials located the driver’s home, where Sellars found her son. Guardian Bus Company fired the driver and stated: “We sincerely apologize. We have a zero-tolerance policy for a child left behind. It shouldn’t happen.” Michael, now 7, refuses to ride school buses and is receiving therapy. “He’s too scared to get back on a bus. He’s worried they’ll leave him again,” Sellars said. (Story URL)
