105-Year-Old Legally Blind Nun Celebrates Birthday Playing Golf With Fellow Sisters
Sister René Parman marked her 105th birthday Friday by playing golf at Knoll Run Golf Course in Lowellville, Ohio, with sisters from her Humility of Mary convent. The Catholic nun began her religious journey at 18 but didn’t discover golf until her 40s when fellow sisters told her to “Hit the ball. That was my only instruction that I ever received,” Sister Parman said. Despite being legally blind, she plays weekly and teaches younger colleagues. “Those two are kind enough to golf with me and tell me where my ball is when I get there. They tell me how far it is to the hole, and I use that club. Without them, I could not golf,” she told WKBN-TV. Sister Parman credits golf for her longevity, saying “I love to do it, and I think it’s wonderful exercise. It’s the one thing that kept me going as well as I have.” (Story URL)
