Report: New Rolling Stones Album Coming Next Summer

New reporting states the long wait for a new Rolling Stones album is nearly over. Last week, the band was photographed entering and leaving Manhattan's famed Electric Lady studio in the Village, presumably working on their first album of original material since 2005's A Bigger Bang.

An inside source told Britain's The Sun, that a new album is expected in the summer of 2023, after which the band will hit North and South America along with a swing through Europe: "After Charlie (Watts') passing there was some uncertainty about what to do next. They had stadium dates scheduled so pressed ahead, but afterwards it wasn't clear what the future looked like. But now they've had time to reflect they all feel it's the right thing to keep doing what they've always done as a band, make new music and hopefully hit the road again to perform it to their fans."

The unnamed insider added, "They've had a knock in recent years, but the show goes on -- and the Stones always do."

Keith Richards says that he and Mick Jagger still rely on spontaneity every time they sit down to write new material for the Stones: "Mick and I, sometimes just before we start making an album, say 'Well, what kind of album do we wanna make?' (Laughs) and I say, 'Mick, a Rolling Stones album (laughs).' It's about as far as I can narrow it down. It's really a matter of surprising yourself as about what's coming out. I mean, if I knew everything that was to be played, it'd probably sound as dead, as dead as a door nail, y'know?"

The Rolling Stones were actually recording a new album when the December 2015 sessions morphed into the blues tracks that made up 2016's Grammy Award-winning Blue & Lonesome collection. Stones producer Don Was maintains that there is ample original material already in the can: "It's really too early to . . . how many songs that we've actually recorded will make a record in the future. Y'know, we cut 30 to get at least 15. So, there's all kinds of stuff. And that's why I say I couldn't even tell you what's going to stand the test of time, and very little of it has gone past the initial tracking date."

Zoe Kravitz Is Credited As A Co-Writer On Two 'Midnight' Tracks

Zoe Kravits is credited as a co-writer on two of Taylor Swift's Midnight tracks.

A tweet from The Swift Society shows that the High Fidelity actress shares credit on "Karma" and "Lavender Haze."

The "Cardigan" singer's boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, also gets a co-writing credit for "Sweet Nothing" under his pen-name William Bowery. And Lana Del Rey both co-wrote and appears on the track "Snow on the Beach."

In total, Swift co-wrote 11 out of the 13 songs with frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, and "Vigilante S**t" is the only track Swift wrote alone.

George Floyd's Family Is Suing Kanye West For 'Drink Champs' Comments

The mother of George Floyd's daughter has sued Kanye West for $250 million following the comments he made about Floyd during an episode of Drink Champs. According to TMZ, Floyd's family issued a cease-and-desist letter to West — who claimed that Floyd died as a result of fentanyl use and that he was not strangled by a cop.

In a press statement, Roxie Washington, the mother of Gianna Floyd, said that Kanye made "false statements about George Floyd's death to promote his brands, and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners, and associates."

Washington continued, saying that West stated "malicious falsehoods" about Floyd in order to profit from his death and the family's trauma.

Attorney Nuru Witherspoon, partner at The Witherspoon Law Group added, "The interests of the child are priority. George Floyd's daughter is being traumatized by Kanye West's comments and he's creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her."

West's Drink Champs interview has been removed from YouTube and Revolt TV.

Short Film Posted For Tom Petty's 'Fillmore 1997' Box Set

As a teaser to the upcoming Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers box set, Live At The Fillmore (1997), a new nearly-nine-minute teaser has popped up online.

The new short film, dubbed, "The Fillmore House Band," features clips of Petty and the band tearing through such classics as "Listen To Her Heart," "Runnin' Down A Dream," "Heartbreakers Beach Party," "American Girl," "Jammin' Me," and "I Won't Back Down."

Also included are covers as the Everly Brothers' arrangement of Little Richard's "Lucille," Chuck Berry's "Around And Around," J.J. Cale's "Call Me The Breeze," and Them's "Gloria."

Heartbreakers co-founder Mike Campbell, whose band Dirty Knobs is currently opening for the Who, admitted to us that carrying on in the wake of Tom Petty's 2017 death is still tough for him: "I don't know if you've ever lost a brother or a family member, but it's. . . I'll never get over it completely. I'm still, y'know, going through the grief stages. But there was a short period of just, kinda, shuttin' down and shock. And then you pick yourself up and go, 'What and I gonna do? Sit around and be sad about this or get on with my music, y'know?' And so, that's what I'm doing."

Flashback: The Who Releases 'Quadrophenia'

It was 49 years ago today (October 19th, 1973) that the Who released their second double album, the watershed 1973 collection, Quadrophenia. The set featured such classic Who songs as "The Real Me," "5:15," "I'm One," "The Punk And The Godfather," "Drowned," "Sea And Sand," and "Love Reign O'er Me," among others. A film version based around the album was produced by the band and released in 1979. The Who returned to the road in North America and Europe in 2012 and 2013 for their critically acclaimed "Quadrophenia & More Tour," which saw the band reviving the album with a new, state of the art production.

Pete Townshend's long-awaited orchestral version of Quadrophenia, titled Classic Quadrophenia, premiered on July 5th, 2015 at London's Royal Albert Hall starring Townshend and Alfie Boe singing Roger Daltrey's original parts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Oriana Choir conducted by Robert Ziegler. The new ‘symphonized' version was orchestrated by Townshend's wife, musician and composer, Rachel Fuller, with a studio version of the work also released on CD. The team hit the road last year for five high-profile performances of the production in New York, the Chicago area, and Los Angeles.

In June 2014, the Who released the live package, Quadrophenia: Live In London. The set was recorded on July 8th, 2013 during the band's tour-closing concert at London's Wembley Arena. The collection is released in seven different configurations -- including a five-disc metal box. In 2012, the Who released the critically acclaimed Quadrophenia "Director's Cut" Box Set. The collection marked the first release of all of Pete Townshend's fully produced one-man-band demos for Quadrophenia -- including the tracks which ended up on the 1979 film soundtrack, along with previously unheard titles.

For Quadrophenia, Pete Townshend created a song cycle chronicling the life of "Jimmy" -- a pill-popping fashion conscious R&B loving "Mod" from London in the mid-'60s. The album focused on Jimmy's battles with his parents, the mod nightlife, his demeaning office job, and the mods' legendary beach rumbles against their cultural nemesis, the "Rockers."

The character of Jimmy was supposed to represent the four facets of the Who: Keith Moon (insane), John Entwistle (romantic), Roger Daltrey (bad), and Townshend (good).

During his guest lecture at 2007's South By Southwest festival, Townshend was asked which he prefers; the band's 1971 album Who's Next, which features only a selection of tracks recorded for his unrealized sci-fi follow-up to Tommy, called Lifehouse, or the more grounded Quadrophenia: "I like Quadrophenia better because it's purer. Y'know, it's complete. I had complete control of it, and I think that hurt the band a bit that I had such control over it -- particularly Roger, who had a feeling that he was on the outside, even though he is very much a pillar. Quadrophenia is also an iconic rock piece. Quadrophenia was also more self-contained. If in a way the failure of Lifehouse led to Quadrophenia then I'm happy, because I think I will never surpass it."

Townshend told us that for Quadrophenia, when writing and demoing the material, he simply followed the same template he had used for the Who's previous projects: "I put my brain into gear, y'know, get my guitar and keyboards out, go into my studio, and then try to start to serve the band in response. And I'd done it a few times. Y'know, I'd done it in the early days with a bunch of pop singles, I'd done it with Tommy, I'd tried to do it again with Lifehouse -- which led to Who's Next -- and with Quadrophenia, it just landed beautifully."

Roger Daltrey's tour-de-force lead vocal on the album's finale "Love Reign O'er Me" is one of dozens of examples of him taking a Townshend song and completely reinventing it as his own: "That's what I used to try and do is to leave people with a mood in a note, and a passion in the song. That in somehow or the other, either went against the lyric, or took the lyric to somewhere where you didn't think. . . It's like 'Love Reign O'er Me' for instance. Pete never, ever saw that as a loud screaming plea, the way I sang it. He saw it as a quiet song -- which obviously you can do. In the terms of the way Quadrophenia was, I saw it as that scream of desperation from the street. He didn't like it. He didn't like what I did with it (laughs) probably still doesn't!"

The Who began performing Quadrophenia as a whole in 1973, but eventually cut many of the songs out of the live shows due to problems in syncing the various live tapes and synth loops to the band's performance. Using various guest stars and supplemental musicians, the Who reunited in 1996 and 1997 and performed Quadrophenia in full. A stage production of Quadrophenia recently ran in the UK.

Even before first joining the Who in 1996, Quadrophenia has always been a family affair for Simon Townshend, who as part of the Who's touring band, performs the album's "The Dirty Jobs" in the Quadrophenia shows. In addition to his brother Pete writing and producing the project -- middle brother Paul Townshend and Simon's future wife Janie were actually featured as "Mod" teenagers in the album's booklet: "I didn't know a lot about it happening at the time. I guess I was about 12, Paul was about 16. I mean, y'know, I was heavily into music at that time, but, y'know, this was something that Paul was approached about and kind of passed me by, 'cause had I known about it I would've killed to be there. I probably was a bit young for the scene they were trying to create."

Pete Townshend told us that when writing the album in 1972 and 1973, he hoped that Quadrophenia would once again connect them with their early fans who followed the Who back in 1964 when they played such regular haunts as the Goldhawk Club and Railway Hotel: "I kind of hit on this notion that what had happened to the Who, was that we lost contact -- not with our audience, per se -- but with our original audience, with our very first audience. And it would be interesting to look at what somebody, like a kid y'know, from, y'know, the early days of the band; what they would feel looking at the Who -- not so much in the present day, but, y'know, in three or four years on -- and whether they would find themselves in that band or not. And if they did find themselves in that band, what would they find?"

In 1979, the plot of Quadrophenia was slightly altered for the cult classic movie version, which was produced by the Who. Although the band doesn't appear in the film, one rocker who shone in the Frank Rodham-directed Quadrophenia -- starring as "Ace Face" -- was none other than Sting in his first major movie role: "The movie came out just as the Police were having our first success, so there was a sort of double whammy of me (laughs) as a singer and then a figure in Quadrophenia -- which was quite a small part, but I seem to have made a big impact with a sort of iconic look. I'm not taking much credit for it, I didn't do very much in the film, but I thought it was a good film. I thought it was one of those films that summed up an era."

During the Who's 2006-2007 tour, the band dropped most of the material from Quadrophenia from their set lists after Daltrey complained that singing the material from their then-new album Endless Wire along with songs from Quadrophenia was too taxing on his voice. By their 2008 dates, Daltrey was back on board, tackling both "5:15" and "Love Reign O'er Me."

The Who's ongoing "Moving On!" tour sees the band -- backed by a local orchestra -- performing a total of five songs from Quadrophenia -- "The Real Me," "I'm One," "5:15," "The Rock," and "Love Reign O'er Me."

The Who next performs on Wednesday (October 20th) in Portland, Oregon at the Moda Center.

Kurt Cobain's Estate Slams 'Unauthorized' Film Last Days

Kurt Cobain's estate has slammed the adaptation of Gus Ban Sant's dramatized film Last Days by London's Royal Opera House, saying that the production is an "unauthorized attempt" to continue exploiting the fictionalized story the late singer's final days.

The estate said in a statement, "Last Days has been created and written without permission. This show, just like the movie, is an unauthorized attempt to benefit from the brief meeting set up with Kurt and Gus Van Zant. This one meeting has been exploited for profit for thirty years now and enough is enough."

A spokesperson for the Royal Opera House issued the following response, "The Royal Opera's production of Last Days is adapted from Gus Van Sant's cult film of the same name, released in 2005. It is a fictionalized account, and was produced with the permissions of Gus Van Sant and HBO."

Journey & Toto Roll Out 2023 'Freedom' Tour Dates

Journey and Toto are taking the show out on the road once again and have rolled out their 38-city, 2023 North American tour dates. The bands kick things off on February 4th in Allentown, Pennsylvania's PPL Center and wrap up 10 weeks later on April 25th in Palm Springs, California at Acrisure Arena.

The tour is named after Journey's latest album, Freedom, which was released last July and peaked at Number Nine on Billboard's Independent Albums chart. The tour will double as Journey's 50th anniversary trek.

Journey co-founder and leader, guitarist Neal Schon said in the tour announcement: "We are all thankful and overwhelmed by the success of our Journey Freedom Tour 2022 this year and have added a new run of dates for 2023. We are looking forward to hitting the road again with our very good friends, Toto! Come join us for a special evening full of fun and rockin' good memories. See you soon, friends."

Keyboardist Jonathan Cain added: "Excited to perform for our fans as we tour next year with Toto. The combined hits of both bands represent a couple of decades of excellence that have become a soundtrack for people's lives. The music of Journey, along with the music of Toto, is an example of 'certain music' during 'uncertain times.'"

Toto's co-founding guitarist Steve Lukather said: "On behalf of myself and the band, we are very honored and excited to do this tour with our old and dear friends, Journey. Gonna be a great night of music, and as all the guys are lifelong friends. . . a blast off-stage as well."

Neal Schon told us that the recent resurgence of "Don't Stop Believin'" after appearing on The Sopranos and Glee -- as well as becoming the first iTunes song to reach two million downloads -- is beyond his comprehension: "When the record came out, there were other songs that were actually bigger than that off it on radio. Y'know, to have it this many years later just come out and be bombastic (laughs) like never before, just like all over the place and just keep on . . . It just keeps on going. Y'know, it's just pretty amazing."

Toto leader Steve Lukather told us the band usually shying away from gigging domestically ultimately boils down to dollars and cents: "We haven't really worked the U.S. in all fairness. Y'know, we got beat up so bad and then we just decided, 'y'know what man. . .' And the offers that we were getting everywhere else in the world were huge! So, y'know, you go where people like you. And they've kept us so busy that, we didn't purposely turn our backs on (the States), but there's a big difference between making a quarter of a million dollars a night and making thirty grand a night, y'know what I mean?"

Dove Cameron Opens Up About Hitting It Big With Queer Anthem, 'Boyfriend'

Dove Cameron recently opened up to Variety about hitting it big with the queer anthem, "Boyfriend."

She told the outlet. "Growing up, always knowing that I was queer, there were instances of queer songs being on the radio, but I don't remember them being so indistinguishable from a song about a straight couple. I always saw queer relationships being fetishized or objectified or held in this kind of laissez-faire, male-gaze attitude, especially when it came to two queer women.

"And then to see people embrace it without even discussing the novelty of having a queer song — where there's no pretense, there's nothing about the song that makes it any different than if a man was singing about a woman or vice versa — I think it's incredibly special."

Growing up as a queer kid wasn't always easy for the former Disney channel star. Despite her on-screen success, she didn't always have an easy time at school.

Cameron said, "I was basically just the opposite of cool, right? I feel like all the popular kids are always the ones who are super like-minded and they don't really care about that much, they're organized around a sport or a certain activity. And I was just like crying all the time, drawing Sharpie tattoos on me, wanting to be a vampire or a boy. I would come to school as a hundred different characters because I was just so expressive."

"Boyfriend" topped out as No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum in the United States.

Kanye West's Drink Champs Interview Taken Down

Kanye West's latest controversial Drink Champs interview has been taken down from YouTube. According to B. Scott, yesterday (October 17th), just two days after the interview premiered on Yutube, it was removed from both the Revolt and Drink Champs Youtube channel. Kanye and Drink Champ hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, along with Kanye received backlash for the interview, where Kanye said that George Floyd died from fentanyl, and was not choked to death.

N.O.R.E. apologized for doing the interview yesterday morning. He said during a radio interview, "When I look back at the interview, I was like, 'Damn, N.O.R.E., why did you wait two hours to address that?' Even though I did feel like I addressed it. I addressed it way too late. The interview way too long. And I'm embarrassed...I can blame this all on Kanye West, I'm not. I want to sit back and say I was irresponsible for letting it go."

He later said in another radio interview, "I apologize to the George Floyd family. I apologize to anyone who was hurt by Kanye West's comments," N.O.R.E. doubled down on The Breakfast Club.

KANYE SPEAKS ON BEING CALLED AN ANTI-SEMITE

During a new interview with NewsNation host Chris Cuomo, Kanye West opened up about being called an anti-semite. He said, "I don't like the term antisemitic. It's been a term that's allowed people, specifically in my industry, to get away with murder—sometimes literally—and get away with robbing and doing bad to people. … You're saying it's antisemitic, but I don't believe in that term. One thing is, Black people are also Jew. I classify as Jew also, so I actually can't be a antisemite. So the term is actually, uh, it's not factual."

He continued, "Everyone wants to shoot the messenger. … ‘You have to understand'—but the thing is, the Jewish people that I'm talking about don't have to understand. And that is that privilege that I'm not going to allow."

He added, "When I wore the ‘white lives matter' t-shirt, the Jewish underground media mafia already started attacking me. They canceled my four SoFi Stadium shows, they had the press—the same people, the…outlets that when I was arguing with Pete Davidson and Trevor Noah, they called me an abuser for arguing with people about my ex-wife and my family, and when I get to see my kids and when I don't. And they just immediately disrespect me, they keep the ‘crazy' narrative going, they never call me a billionaire. We never talked about, even on this one right here, hey: tycoon, billionaire, visionary, inventor. These are never used."

KANYE WEST TO ACQUIRE CONSERVATIVE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM 'PARLER'

65 Years Ago Tonight: Lennon & McCartney Play Their First Gig Together

It was 65 years ago tonight -- October 18th, 1957 -- that 15-year-old Paul McCartney made his live debut performing with 17-year-old John Lennon and his skiffle band the Quarrymen. The local Liverpool venue was the New Clubmoor Hall in Norris Green, and Lennon and McCartney -- who were the group's joint frontmen -- wore cream colored sports coats with a black bootlace ties.

According to legend, McCartney played the lead guitar intro to Bill Justis' "Raunchy" -- the very song his friend George Harrison played during his audition for the group in March 1958. In later years, McCartney remembered completely botching his solo on Arthur Smith's "Guitar Boogie."

Lennon & McCartney had officially met the previous July 6th at a Church summer event where Lennon's band the Quarrymen performed.

Although people nearly always pegged Paul McCartney as the softer of the two -- he explained John Lennon's perceived toughness was a result of an unsteady childhood: "The truth is, when John and I were together, we are much more equal. When we'd get in public, his front would come down. I never needed it, 'cause my family in Liverpool was very, sort of, comfortable and you were quite confident to be around people. John was always having to fight. He was always having to put up a front -- and he always suspected. . . And so, he had this acerbic wit as a defense mechanism, I'm sure."

Flashback: The Rolling Stones Release 'It's Only Rock N' Roll'

It was 48 years ago today (October 18th, 1974) that the Rolling Stones' released It's Only Rock N' Roll. The album marked the Stones' first without Jimmy Miller -- their producer since 1968's Beggars Banquet -- with production duties handled by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards under their joint pseudonym, "The Glimmer Twins." The album topped the Billboard 200 albums chart for one week, starting on November 23rd, 1974 and spent a total of seven weeks in the Top 10.

Although the set featured several cuts that reached extensive FM airplay, the album's two singles both failed to reach the Top 10, with the title track hitting Number 16 and its followup, a cover of the Temptations' 1966 hit "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" only reaching Number 17.

The song "It's Only Rock N' Roll" grew out of a jam session between Jagger, David Bowie, soon-to-be Rolling Stone Ron Wood, his Faces bandmate Kenney Jones, and bassist Willie Weeks. Keith Richards reportedly wiped Wood's contributions off the master tape, replacing the guitar tracks and Wood's name on the songwriting credits. Jagger cut a deal with Wood, trading him full copyrights and credits for their other co-write -- "I Can Feel The Fire" -- so that he could keep the song and credit it as a Jagger/Richards original. "I Can Feel The Fire" -- which Jagger sings on -- can be found on Wood's 1974 solo debut, I Got My Own Album To Do.

It's Only Rock N' Roll proved to be the sixth and final Stones album to feature Brian Jones' replacement, Mick Taylor. Taylor was responsible for some of the Stones' most famous solos during their early '70s heyday and was highlighted on Sticky Fingers' seven-plus-minute, Latin-infused workout "Can't You Hear Me Knocking." He has gone on record over the years claiming that he actually co-wrote many Stones songs for which he's never been credited or compensated, including "Moonlight Mile," "Sway," "Winter," and It's Only Rock N' Roll's ballads "Till The Next Goodbye," and "Time Waits For No One," among others.

At the time of the album's release, an obviously drug addled Keith Richards appeared on BBC's The Old Grey Whistle Test to talk about the album: "Basically, everybody's together to cut the tracks, after that, everybody sort of disappears and leaves it to Mick and I, because they get confused after a while. And everybody sits in the studio saying, ‘No, this should be louder, this. . ." We end up usually, Mick and I, struggling along by ourselves (laughter)."

The following year, Mick Taylor appeared on the program and shed light on his exit from the Stones' camp: "It had been in the back of my mind for quite a long time. I mean, my role as lead guitarist has always been very satisfying, especially playing live onstage, which is where I feel I make my greatest contribution toward the group. But as my own music started to develop, it became more and more difficult to express myself within the style of the group. And, I mean, it's the style of the Stones that makes them so good." (:29 OC: . . . them so good."

After leaving the Stones in December 1974 and eventually being replaced by Ron Wood, Taylor briefly teamed up with Jack Bruce, with less than successful results.

In Marc Spitz' 2011 biography, Jagger: Rebel, Rock Star, Rambler, Rouge, Carly Simon revealed that at the same time that Jagger laid down backing vocals on Simon's 1972 track and eventual chart-topper, "You're So Vain," she and Jagger co-wrote the It's Only Rock N' Roll album track "Till The Next Goodbye'" and co-credited Keith Richards instead of her. Simon is quoted as saying, "We wrote a song together that became a song on the next Stones album (It's Only Rock N' Roll) called, 'Till The Next Goodbye.' I thought that was going to be a joint venture, but I'd never heard from Mick about how he'd like me to share the royalties."

Upon hitting the road in 1975, the Stones included six tracks from It's Only Rock N' Roll in their setlitsts: The album's opening cut "If You Can't Rock Me" (played in medley with "Get Off My Cloud"), "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," "Luxury," "Fingerprint File," "Dance Little Sister," and "It's Only Rock N' Roll."

Flashback: The Traveling Wilburys Release Debut Album

It was 34 years ago today (October 18th, 1988) the Traveling Wilburys' debut album, Vol. 1, was released. The album peaked at Number Three on the Billboard 200 album charts and featured included a veritable Mount Rushmore of rock -- George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, ELO's Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison. Orbison died only two months after Volume 1 was released and still riding high on the charts.

In 1990, Vol. 1 went on to score the Traveling Wilburys their only Grammy for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group and has since been certified triple platinum.

The tracklisting to 'The Traveling Wilburys' Vol. 1' is: "Handle With Care," "Dirty World," "Rattled," "Last Night," "Not Alone Any More," "Congratulations," "Heading For The Light," "Margarita," "Tweeter And The Monkey Man," and "End Of The Line."

Jeff Lynne was serving as George Harrison's co-producer and collaborator for his 1987 comeback album Cloud Nine. He recalled the exact moment the seed of the Traveling Wilburys was first planted: "George had this great idea and he said, 'Y'know what? You and me should form a group' -- while we were making his album, Cloud Nine. I said, 'Really? That sound great to me, mate!' Sure enough, we formed a group. I said, 'Who should we have in it?' -- and he said, 'Bob Dylan.' 'Of course, yeah. Who else?' And then I said, 'Can we have Roy Orbison there?' 'Yeah, great! That'd be good.' And we both loved Tom Petty, so we had him, as well. And it was just a marvelous time. It was probably one of the most marvelous times I can ever remember."

George Harrison explained that the Traveling Wilburys came to be almost by accident -- with help from Jeff Lynne -- when his record label demanded a new B-side for his latest single: "I was in Los Angeles and he was producing Roy Orbison and we were having dinner one night and I said, 'I'm gonna have to write a song and just do it',' y'know? And we were saying 'Where can we get a studio?' And he said, 'Well, maybe Bob' -- 'cause he's got this little studio in his garage. And it was that instant, y'know, we just went back to his house, phoned up Bob, he said 'Sure, come on over.' Tom Petty had my guitar and said, when I went to pick it up, he said, 'Ah, I was wondering what I was gonna do tomorrow,' and Roy said, 'Well give us a call tomorrow if you're gonna do anything, 'I'd love to come along.'"

Bob Dylan Discusses The Who's 'My Generation'

Bob Dylan talks in depth about Pete Townshend's 1965 breakthrough hit for the Who -- "My Generation." The legendary tune is but one of many analyzed in Dylan's first new book in 18 years, titled, The Philosophy Of Modern Song. The book is comprised of 60 essays featuring Dylan's musing on other popular musicians -- including Stephen Foster, Elvis Costello, Hank Williams, and Nina Simone, among many others. Dylan has been working on the manuscript for the past decade.

The New York Times published an excerpt from the tome in which Dylan writes of "My Generation":

This is a song that does no favors for anyone and casts doubt on everything.

In this song, people are trying to slap you around, slap you in the face, vilify you. They're rude, and they slam you down, take cheap shots. They don't like you because you pull out all the stops and go for broke. You put your heart and soul into everything and shoot the works because you got energy and strength, and purpose.

Because you're so inspired, they put the whammy on, they're allergic to you, and they have hard feelings. Just your very presence repels them. They give you frosty looks, and they've had enough of you, and there's a million others just like you, multiplying every day.

Pete Townshend explained that it was Bob Dylan's work during the first half of the 1960's that changed all his preconceived notions of songwriting upon first listen: "I suddenly realized after listening to Bob Dylan, that the song that I had written, which was ‘I can't explain,' y'know, to the prettiest girl in the class -- ‘I love you, but I can't explain, ‘cause I'm too shy' -- that this song was actually about being inarticulate. It was a song about being unable to explain what you felt. And he was the guy that changed the way that we used the pop lyric. He was the guy that really said, ‘You can write a song about nuclear fallout -- and it can still be fun. Y'know, it's a bizarre notion. That's basically what happened."

The Who performs tonight (October 17th) at Denver's Ball Arena.

Bob Dylan performs tonight (October 17th) in The Netherlands at Amsterdam's AFAS Live.

Covid Forces Graham Nash To Postpone Tour

Graham Nash has postponed the remainder of his North American dates after a member of the touring party contracted Covid. Last week, Nash's old friend Ringo Starr also was forced to scrap his fall dates due to Covid.

A message was posted on Nash's Facebook page, which reads: "We are truly sorry to have to announce that we will be postponing the remainder of Graham's tour dates due to a Covid outbreak in the touring party. All shows will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Please stay healthy and safe out there and we hope to see you soon."

Graham Nash, who's now 80, admitted to us that his acoustic shows have brought him closer to his audience than ever before: "They more and more seem to think I'm one of them, and I like that a lot. ‘Cause I don't want it to be, y'know, a bunch of people looking at some guy onstage as a star, y'know? Whatever we have done in our lives, every single decision we have ever made, up to this point will bring us to the show. So, why not have the best time? Why not have me do my job, which is as a musician, I go there, I sing songs, I hope to touch their hearts, I hope to touch their minds, I get paid money, and they leave smiling. What's wrong with this picture?"
