Help a Local Fireman’s Family
The Chattanooga Fire Department and other local public safety agencies are doing what they can to help a fellow first responder and his family. Battalion Chief David Thompson Jr.’s daughter, Makayla, 22, has special needs. Her family is attempting to buy a van for Makayla, who has been in a wheelchair her entire life. David and his family have always had to make transportation arrangements with a manual wheelchair, instead of her electric wheelchair, which increases her mobility. When the family is able to get a van for her, she will be able to go everywhere with her electric wheelchair and have the independence to drive herself to stores, parks, medical appointments and other places. It has special modifications for her wheelchair to be rolled in and locked down.

There will also be a BBQ sale open to the public with 100% of the proceeds going to help with the purchase of the van. It will be on Saturday, November 14th from 11 AM to 6 PM at 6216 Perimeter Drive. BBQ will also be sold by-the-pound. It is preferred for people to pre-order plates and by-the-pound meat by Thursday, November 12th, as quantities will be limited the day of.
You can get pulled BBQ pork or chicken sandwiches with coleslaw, chips, cookies and a water for $10 per plate. Meat is also available by the pound (pork or chicken) for $10 per pound. Everyone involved in the BBQ sale will be practicing social distancing and following CDC guidelines. All plates of meat will be delivered to vehicles by volunteers wearing masks and gloves. Please wear a mask and stay in your vehicle when picking up food. Again, it’s strongly recommended that you preorder food. Preorders can be sent to: Kaylasvan2020@gmail.com.
