Cornell Students Process Bear Carcass In Campus Dorm Room After Legal Hunt

Two Cornell University undergraduates legally hunted a 120-pound black bear Saturday, then brought the carcass to their campus residence hall for skinning and butchering. The incident triggered a police report and university investigation over the weekend. New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation confirmed both students hold valid state hunting licenses and broke no laws. Cornell officials determined the students followed the Student Code of Conduct, which “does not appear to address animal carcass transportation and processing, or the storage of raw meat.” A social media photo showed the young bear’s remains on a dorm table, sparking campus controversy. The bear was killed several counties east of Cornell’s Ithaca campus. Some students joked about the school’s unofficial bear mascot Touchdown, with one saying “No one has seen Touchdown lately.” (Story URL)
