Former Jail Commander Sued for Allegedly Watching Inmates’ Strip Search Videos

Three women are suing a former Colorado jail commander and government agencies, alleging the commander repeatedly watched over 100 inmates’ strip search videos without authorization. The lawsuit claims that despite a history of sexual misconduct allegations, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office hired Edward Aber and failed to monitor access to the strip search footage. Aber was charged with 117 counts of invasion of privacy after investigators found he had logged over 3,000 accesses to the videos, sometimes from home or hotels late at night. Some videos had been purged from the system, suggesting more inmates may have been impacted. The lawsuit alleges Aber and the agencies violated the women’s constitutional rights to privacy and protection from unreasonable searches. It seeks to include any other affected inmates beyond the three plaintiffs. (Newser)
