Jet Lands As Another Attempts Takeoff On Same Runway

At Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport, an Aeromexico jet narrowly avoided colliding with a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 on Monday. The Aeromexico jet flew over the Delta aircraft, which was taxiing for takeoff, missing it by about 200 feet. The Delta flight, bound for Atlanta, aborted takeoff upon seeing the incoming aircraft. The Delta plane had accelerated to 60mph before the pilot applied the brakes to avoid a collision. Three hours later, the flight took off without incident. Delta praised the flight crew for their quick actions. In 2021, Mexico had its FAA safety rating downgraded for noncompliance with safety standards, which was later reinstated in 2023. (Newser)
