Long-Lost Postcard Returned To Sender 72 Years After Being Mailed
Nearly three-quarters of a century after being sent, a postcard has reached its intended destination. The missive, mailed by Alan Ball to his parents in 1953, recently arrived at the Ottawa Post Office in Illinois. Postmaster Mark Thompson, intrigued by the long-delayed delivery, enlisted local genealogists to track down the now 88-year-old Ball, who resides in Sandpoint, Idaho. While Ball recognized the handwriting as his own, he had no recollection of sending the postcard, which depicts the United Nations building in New York. Experts believe the card was likely mishandled at a post office within the U.N. complex, becoming lost in an obscure location for decades before re-entering circulation. (UPI)
