South Korean School Offers Scholarship Money for Climbing Six Mountains

Seoul National University in South Korea received over 1,400 student applications for a unique scholarship program that rewards students with up to $540 for climbing six designated mountains. The Misan Mountain Hiking Scholarship, open for applications from July 8-18, provides $216 to students who climb three mountains and $540 to those who conquer all six by the end of the year. To qualify, students must climb mountains listed in Black Yak’s 100 Famous Mountains and 100+ Famous Mountains without the use of cable cars or gondolas. Applicants are required to submit proof of their climbs through the Black Yak app. The scholarship, established by 1963 alumnus Kwon Jun-ha, 81, aims to promote healthy individuals with a spirit of challenge and community.
