Tacos Are Legally Mexican-Style Sandwiches

Indiana Superior Court Judge Bobay ruled that tacos and burritos qualify as “Mexican-style sandwiches.” Conflict arose when Mexican restauranteur Martin Quintana attempted to open in a strip mall and faced opposition. The strip mall only allowed for “made-to-order or subway style sandwiches.” The judge determined that burritos and tacos were Mexican-style sandwiches, and could be sold in the strip mall. “The Court agrees with Quintana that tacos and burritos are Mexican-style sandwiches, and the original Written Commitment does not restrict potential restaurants to only American cuisine-style sandwiches,” Bobay wrote.
