Tomb Of Medieval Knight Found Under A Former Ice Cream Shop
Archaeologists have uncovered what they believe to be the remains of a medieval knight beneath a former ice cream parlor in Gdańsk, Poland. The tomb, discovered on July 8th, is estimated to date back to the 13th or 14th century. The skeleton measured approximately 5 feet, 6 inches and is believed to have belonged to a 40-year-old man. A hand-carved limestone tombstone depicting a knight holding a shield was found over the grave, indicating the individual was likely a knight. However, the worn coat of arms on the shield makes it difficult to determine which ruler the knight served. The tombstone and skeleton have been transferred to the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk for further analysis. Researchers hope to learn more about the identity and origins of the knight through continued study, with plans to release their findings next year. (People)
