You Can Train Your Brain to Be More Optimistic

Do you consider yourself an optimist or a pessimist? If you tend to lean negative sometimes, you’re not alone. The good news is, optimism is something you can actually improve upon.
According to a behavioral scientist and psychologist, here are three easy science-backed ways to build a more positive mindset:
1. Make a “ta-da list.” At the end of your day, write down everything you got done. Not just the big stuff. Things like finishing laundry, or even drinking enough water. The goal is to remind yourself that you did a lot. That builds confidence.
2. Schedule “worry time.” Instead of stressing all day long, give your worries a set time and place. Write them down as they pop up, then come back to them later. Ask yourself, “Can I control this?” If the answer is no, try letting it go.
3. Use realistic affirmations. It’s called the “7 out of 10 rule.” Pick something you believe 70% already, like “I’m a hard worker.” Say it daily. Over time, your brain starts to believe it more. And you can change that 70% into 100%.
