Four Tips to Survive the Halloween-Time Change Weekend

We’ve got a double whammy this weekend with Halloween AND the time change. Even though we GAIN an hour of sleep, it can still be a shock to the system. Here are four tips to get through it . . .
1. Don’t blow the whole extra hour on Halloween night. I know, lame. It’s tempting to stay out an hour later because you’re getting that time “back.” But even a little extra sleep is a better deal than feeling miserable on Sunday.
2. Have your kids eat a meal before trick-or-treating. Otherwise, they might fill up on candy before they get home for dinner, and getting to bed will be even MORE of a challenge. Trust me, you don’t want to negotiate with a five-year-old who’s running on nothing but chocolate and gummy worms.
3. Start the transition tonight. The clock doesn’t actually change until early Sunday morning, but getting a head start will help ease you into it. Shift your bedtime and wake time about 20 minutes later each day starting tonight, and you should be good by Monday.
4. Get outside each morning. Go for a walk, run an errand, or enjoy your coffee outdoors this weekend. With the sun setting earlier, getting outside during the day can help boost your energy and mood, and morning sunlight is especially helpful for keeping your body’s internal clock on track.
