1. Sleep more. Getting enough sleep keeps hormones in check, and lowers levels of the “stress hormone” cortisol. When cortisol is high, we tend to stress-eat. So getting enough sleep can reduce those urges and help you cut calories.

2. Do some deep breathing before you eat. When you’re in flight-or-flight mode, your body wants to store calories instead of burning them. So a few deep breaths before dinner can calm you down and prevent it.

3. Don’t skip your chores. Vacuuming for 30 minutes can burn 100 calories or more, and mowing the lawn can burn 200. Instead of thinking of them as something you “have” to do, look at them as an extra workout you “get” to do.

4. Pace around when you’re on the phone. It can help get your steps in and burn around five calories per minute.
