Can You Wash Vegetables in the Dishwasher?

I’m not sure the average American eats this much produce anyway. But here’s a weird hack . . .

Can you wash large amounts of fruits and vegetables in the DISHWASHER? It’s a hack that’s going viral after someone posted a video of their mom doing it.

The idea is to wash everything all at once right after you buy it. But experts say it’s NOT actually a great idea.

Dishwashers are designed to clean hard surfaces like glass. So, really soft stuff like tomatoes might get pulverized.

But the bigger issue is the residual soap in there. You don’t really want to be eating that, or any rinse aid that you pre-loaded.

The FDA says the best thing to do is just rinse stuff in the sink like a NORMAL person, and not until you’re ready to you use it. If you wash stuff early and put it back in the fridge wet, the extra moisture can make it spoil faster.
