Joe Satriani Feels Only Wolfgang Van Halen Should Sub For His Dad

Despite initially being tapped by Alex Van Halen to handle guitar duties for a loosely proposed Eddie Van Halen tribute show -- Joe Satriani now maintains he's not the man for the job.

During a chat with Ultimate Classic Rock, Satriani said, "When I saw Wolfgang (Van Halen) playing at the Taylor Hawkins benefit, I thought it was the most natural, beautiful thing I'd seen in a long time. It was such a wonderful thing to see him play his dad's music like that, and he's such an incredible musician. I thought, 'Well, if the thing is ever gonna happen, he should do it.' It just seemed more natural than reaching out to somebody like me."

He went on to say, "The world should just wait for him to make up his mind how he wants to do it, and we should leave him alone, let him figure out the best time and place for it. Whatever he comes up with will be the best way to do it, I think."

Regarding his original agreement to step into Van Halen's shoes for the tribute show, Satriani admitted: "I heard myself saying 'yes' before my better judgment kicked in, because I am such a fan of Eddie and his work, and I thought, 'Wow, it would be such a great labor of love to dive into that and try to understand the essence what he was doing for each song.'"

Satriani, whose six-string prowess remains amazing, revealed that part of the allure of performing Van Halen songs would be the chance to really analyze what Eddie Van Halen was actually playing: "I can kind of figure out the fingers, but there's some things that are too quirky that he does that I can't figure out how to do. Getting inside the music is really what you need to do when you go to play it, to capture the spirit of it and learn what not to play when you're playing each song. I would really enjoy that."

As far as any sort of chance in getting both David Lee Roth and his Chickenfoot bandmate Sammy Hagar on the same bill playing Van Halen music, Satriani said, "I mean, once you really sit down and you start talking about it, there are just so many roadblocks; you can't imagine just how it's going to happen. I think they need to make some important decisions. I think it's really up to Wolfgang and his Uncle Alex to figure out what to do."

Bruce Springsteen Taps Legendary 1978 Atlanta Show For Monthly Vault Release

As part of his monthly live archival series, Bruce Springsteen has just issued yet another classic show from the E Street Band's famed tour behind his watershed fourth album, Darkness On The Edge Of Town. The new set, which was taped on October 1st, 1978 at Atlanta's Fox Theatre, comes from the night after one of the band's legendary radio broadcast from the Darkness tour. The new Atlanta release marks the is the tenth concert from the historic '78 North American trek. The show was originally scheduled as the tour's finale -- until new dates were soon added through the end of the year.

In addition to such concert staples as "Born To Run," "Thunder Road," "Spirit In The Night," "Badlands," "The Promised Land," "Growin' Up," and "Thunder Road," the October 1st Atlanta show features one of only three performances on the trek where Springsteen performed "Meeting Across The River/Jungleland" and "Incident On 57th Street/ Rosalita."

The show included Springsteen's then-still unreleased versions of "Because The Night," "Fire," and "Point Blank." Also featured are covers of the Rolling Stones' "The Last Time," Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel," the Animals' "It's My Life," the now legendary "Detroit Medley," and Gary "U.S." Bonds' show-closing "Quarter To Three."

Future MTV vee-jay J.J. Jackson spoke to Bruce Springsteen for KABC-TV during the L.A. run in '78 following "The Boss'" sold-out July 5th gig at The Forum, and Springsteen shed light on how seriously he took his job: "Y'know, it's, like, it's the thing. . . It's the, I guess, probably the only thing that I live for, y'know? (Laughs) And I just try to keep a hold on. . . I play Buddy Holly every night before I go on. That keeps me honest, y'know? (Laughs)."

Guitarist Steve Van Zandt explained to us that Bruce Springsteen was able to understand exactly how each member of the E Street Band would ultimately be able to serve him and his music: "Bruce handpicked the band himself, one guy at a time, y'know? And it was his band and we existed for him and to realize his vision, as I said. And he picked guys who could handle a wide variety of things and could basically follow orders (laughs), okay? We had, y'know, a really fast ability to learn. Every one of us, y'know, there was a lot of spontaneity going on in the show -- a lot."

The tracklisting to Bruce Springsteen's 'Atlanta - October 1, 1978' is: "The Last Time," "Badlands," "Spirit In The Night," "Darkness On The Edge Of Town," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Factory," "The Promised Land," "Prove It All Night," "It's My Life," "Thunder Road," "Meeting Across The River/Jungleland," "For You," "Fire," "Candy's Room," "Because The Night," "Point Blank," "Kitty's Back," "Incident On 57th Street/Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)," "Born To Run," "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," "Detroit Medley," "and "Quarter To Three."

Charlie Watts Blamed Led Zeppelin For Making Concerts Two Hours Long

Charlie Watts blamed Led Zeppelin for pushing the amount of time musicians were expected to play in concert. Billboard published excerpts from the new biography of the late-Rolling Stones drummer, Charlie's Good Tonight: The Life, The Times, And The Rolling Stones: The Authorized Biography Of Charlie Watts by Paul Sexton. Charlie Watts died of cancer on August 24th, 2021 at the age of 80.

In the book, which was published today (October 11th), Watts is quoted as saying, "I blame Led Zeppelin for the two-hour-long show. Now, you see, we jumped in a few years from doing 20 minutes, all the hits and off -- the Apollo Revue, we'll call it -- we went from doing club dates which are two sets a night, which was great fun, to doing two minutes, because you got pulled off the stage, to doing 20-minute Apollo-type shows to doing, thanks to Led Zeppelin, this two-hour long show."

Watts went on to say, "If you're Jimmy Page, you can do that, and (John) Bonham's 20-minute drum solo. It wasn't about that with us, it was a different thing. I don't like doing drum solos, period. I don't hear things like that."

Watt's daughter Seraphina Watts shed light on her father's behind the scenes creative work for the band's tours and the design, construction, and presentation of their stages: "He was behind the creative process, that mega-touring, those stages, before U2, before any of those guys. Because of his design history, he did merchandising, designing of stages. Art direction, really. He was involved with the lighting, all the behind-the-scenes stuff. They have a really fantastic team and the same people (each time), and I don't think people know quite how involved he was."

Charlie's Good Tonight includes forewords by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, along with new interviews with the pair, as well as Ron Wood, Bill Wyman, and many of Watts' family members, friends, and colleagues.

In 2019, Charlie Watts sat down with Red Hot Chili Peppers' sticksman Chad Smith for an interview for Drumchannel.com. Although born in 1941 and perfectly situated to be among the millions of British teens to fall under the spell of rock n' roll, Charlie Watts revealed to Smith that it was only in the early-1960's though Stones co-founders Brian Jones and Keith Richards that he was able to find his way to rock via their blues infatuations: "Brian and Keith -- Brian Jones and Keith used to play Jimmy Reed all day on the little machine -- well they actually had a big radiogram -- it was the same as playing jazz. It was another drum thing. I learned to play by watching people. If you were playing, I'd be up there watching you. . . how to play this, that, and the other. All those guys, y'know, D.J. Fontana, who probably plays some of the best -- what's termed rock n' roll -- y'know, 'Hound Dog' and all those things, they're fantastic. It's like a swing drummer, actually. And you watch him with Elvis (Presley), he's (laughs) playing. . . it's all one thing."

Brian Wilson Biographer Heading Up UCLA Event Tomorrow

West Coast Beach Boys fans take note for a special event happening tomorrow (Wednesday, October 12th) at UCLA's Lani Hall. At 4 pm PST, noted writer/producer David Leaf -- author of the newly expanded, God Only Knows: The Story Of Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys And The California Myth -- will be on hand for an in-depth chat with Emmy Award winning commentator/journalist Roy Firestone. The chat will benefit the UCLA Herb Albert School of Music.

Along with a book signing by Leaf, audience members will be treated to a rare appearance by longtime members of Brian Wilson's legendary band -- Darian Sahanaja and Probyn Gregory. The event is free and open to the public, although seating is limited and early arrival is encouraged. A book signing will follow for those who have purchased in advance from https://amzn.to/3zNkbbp or other sellers. To live stream the event, log on to: https://schoolofmusic.ucla.edu/event/god-only-knows/

David Leaf, a Peabody Award-winning author, filmmaker, and UCLA professor, has reissued his groundbreaking tome via Omnibus Press to coincide with Brian Wilson's 80th year. Leaf has written a new, expansive section covering the years since the book's 1985 reprint.

The California Myth now features newly written contributions from Paul McCartney and Barry Gibb, an introduction by Jimmy Webb, and notes by Brian's wife, Melinda Wilson.

Spurred on by years of fandom and the 1971 watershed publication of Tom Nolan's in-depth two-part "A California Saga" Rolling Stone story spotlighting the Beach Boys' history and inner workings -- David Leaf was left with a fascination and need to unearth this band's bottom line: "What I was seeing was, this group on stage was great, this group on record was great -- and this story had a million missing pieces that I could not connect. And I became pretty obsessed to the point where before I graduated from college -- I don't remember the exact moment that I articulated it, but (I thought), 'I'm going to move to California, write a book about Brian Wilson, became his friend, and help him finish SMiLE.'"

Following the 1978 publication of his book, among many other things, David Leaf co-produced the Beach Boys' critically acclaimed career-spanning Good Vibrations: Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys box set, in which he worked with Brian Wilson to liberate over 30 minutes of unheard SMiLE material, followed by the massive Pet Sounds box set. He was instrumental in helping Brian Wilson follow through on becoming a live concert performer and served as the guiding hand and creative consultant for Wilson to finally complete the long-unfinished SMiLE project for live performance: "He's not a natural performer by any stretch of the imagination, but Brian has always understood the impact his music has had on others. It's unfortunate that so many decades of his life were filled with a rollercoaster of sadness and abuse that he wasn't able to enjoy it more. But, I think one of the great things about when he started touring in '99 and for the years that I was around and afterwards, he got an awful lot from getting out there and playing his music. He didn't always show it on his face -- but he felt it."

Did Madonna just make a huge revelation about her sexuality?

The "Like A Virgin" singer shared a TikTok Sunday (October 9th) in which she declared "If I miss, I'm Gay!" before tossing a pair of panties at a trash can.

Madonna has been married twice, to Sean Penn in the late 80s and Guy Ritchie in the early 2000s. She has six children.

Justin And Hailey Bieber Reportedly Cut Ties With Kanye West

Justin Bieber has cut ties with Kanye West after the rapper attacked his wife, Hailey Bieber, on social media.

Sources told TMZ Saturday (October 8th) that the "Peaches" singer and his wife are "hurt" by Ye's antics.

The rapper went after Hailey after she defended Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, calling her "nose job Hailey Badloose" and telling Justin to "get your girl."

West went after Karefa-Johnson, after she referred to the "White Lives Matter" shirts wornin his Yeezy fashion show as "deeply offensive, violent and dangerous."

Hailey never attacked West in her defense of the stylist and global Vogue contributing editor. She wrote in her Instagram stories, "GKJ ALL DAY, EVERYDAY. My respect for you runs deep my friend! To know you is to adore you and to work with you is an honor. The most kind. The most talented. The most fun. The most chic."

Neal Schon's Wife Calls For Truce With Steve Perry

With the feud between Steve Perry and Journey's Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain once again rearing its head, Neal's wife -- Michaele Schon -- took to social media to urge Perry to work things out with his former-bandmates.

Last month, Perry filed a lawsuit against Schon and Cain "over the use of 20 of the band's songs as registered trademarks. Between February and May 2022, Schon and Cain were granted trademarks for some of the band's biggest hits for use on merchandising, such as hats, jackets, shirts, etc., without Perry's consent."

Michaele Schon posted an open letter to Steve Perry on her social media platforms, which reads:

All I can say is life is precious and truly is a Blessing.

Steve Perry has decided to make this very public with media. In today's world, someone cannot make a "threat" to anyone, especially on tour where band, fans and promoters are involved. etc Steve, minutes before a sold out show, threatens sign his agreement or he won't perform for the fans, why hurt fans or anyone? ………things go viral now and that doesn't work in todays (sic) world.

Steve Perry trying to vote Neal out of the band that Neal built since the 70's was not right. Steve should call and apologize for it. Steve has collected for 3 decades from touring because of his threatening contract in the 80's This is on top of everything else Steve earns.

So Instead of greed and hostility, maybe try a new approach Mr Perry, please say thank you to Neal, apologize, and say how do we move forward? how do we make things right? How do we work together? Steve try, "You are my Journey brother and let's make it right now for Us and for the Journey fans!!" (that would be something that will hold a lot of good karma for Mr. Perry) The Journey Fans have their heart in it as Neal always has JOURNEY within this heart!! Every Night for years on tour, Neal talks about Steve and honors the friendship you had, and the timeless music created together! God protected Neal and he continues to for Journey to live on!! please remember as we treat others may it be returned to us.

Maybe just sit and talk kindly to Neal. One on One as the friends that I saw at The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Those were real feelings you both had and I saw it, and please allow it, embrace it and watch the magic return for if nothing else to know we all love you both and don't want to associate things like this with Beautiful Journey Music!

Steve, Please email, call, send a message and talk.

Life is a blessing,
Love
Lady M Schön

Neal Schon chimed in on the couple's joint Facebook site and posted his own thoughts about the band's latest legal issues, writing, "How would you all react to say a situation where Steve Perry wants to make his OWN T Shirts / Merch that just says Steve Perry Don't Stop Believin? Or Jon Cain wanting the same thing to sell in his church? It was suggested and I said -- These are JOURNEY Songs we created. Not individually."

Neal Schon co-founded Journey back in 1973 -- a full four years before Steve Perry joined the already established band. He told us that playing a variety of new markets and having a worldwide presence was always something that he wished for Journey -- and was only able to achieve following Steve Perry's departure and the addition of current frontman Arnel Pineda: "It's not mind-boggling to me, it's always something that I thought we could achieve. We just never went after it in the '80s and when we were playing stadiums, we never spent the time in Europe and we never spent the time in South America or brought anywhere, except the Orient. So, y'know, in a way, it's really cool because all these markets are fresh, new green grounds for us to (laughs) stomp on, y'know?"

Charlie Puth Says He Was Also Abandoned By Ellen Degeneres' Record Label

Charlie Puth says that Greyson Chance wasn't the only artist to be abandoned by Ellen DeGeneres' eleveneleven record label.

The singer told Rolling Stone Music Now, "We both have different experiences, me versus Greyson. But I do agree with him that no one was present, certainly, after the creation of my first demo EP. Not putting any blame on one person, but from a collective … all the people that were in that room, they just disappeared. I didn't hear from anybody."

Chance recently told Rolling Stone that DeGeneres was "manipulative" and "blatantly opportunistic" to work with and claimed that she was incredibly controlling until his music underperformed. After that, the 25-year-old singer says she became incredibly distant.

Beyonce Denies Misusing 'I'm Too Sexy' Sample On 'Alien Superstar'

Beyoncé is pushing back against allegations that she didn't use the sample on her song "Alien Superstar" from her Renaissance album properly.

According to CNN, the band claimed Bey never asked for permission to use Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" and called her "arrogant."

However, Bey's team responded and told Entertainment Weekly, "The comments made by Right Said Fred stating that Beyoncé used ‘I'm Too Sexy' in ‘Alien Superstar' without permission are erroneous and incredibly disparaging. Permission was not only granted for its use, but they publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album."

The statement added that "Alien Superstar" only using the composition of "I'm Too Sexy" and none of the sound recordings.

Also, on July 22, before Renaissance came out, Right Said Fred tweeted, "It's nice to get a writing credit on the new ‘Beyoncé album."

We've never played it before -- we only played it about an hour ago right before we came out, but we're gonna try it now."

  • The Who saved a little something extra for their diehard Long Island fans on Friday night (October 7th). During the band's first-ever gig at Elmont, New York's UBS Arena, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey not only included the fan favorite "Naked Eye" -- but a show closing run-through the Who's Live At Leeds Mose Allison cover of "Young Man's Blues."

  • Roger Waters admitted his lack of knowledge about hard rock and heavy metal during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. The Pink Floyd co-founder explained, "(I'm) not really interested in loud rock n' roll -- which some people are and they love it, but I couldn't care less about AC/DC or Eddie Van Halen or any of that stuff. It's just, who? I don't go, 'Who?' because obviously I know the name. And I'm sure Eddie's brilliant and a great guitar player and wonderful. It just doesn't interest me." (Loudwire)

  • The Black Crowes -- brothers Chris and Rich Robinson -- are "engaged" in settlement talks with co-founding drummer Steve Gorman. Gorman drummed for the band from 1991 to 2001, and again from 2005 until 2014 when the brothers first split.

  • While promoting his Like A Rolling Stone memoir on the WTF Marc Maron Podcast, Jann Wenner revealed that corporate rock bands never had a chance for induction while he was heading up the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When pressed about the mega-platinum selling Foreigner, Wenner said, "Nothing against Foreigner -- in fact, I was very good friends with Mick Jones. . . but, y'know, Foreigner's name has never come up in a nominating committee to be nominated."
    • When pressed about REO Speedwagon, Boston, and Styx, Wenner said, "No, that whole era, it doesn't come up. . . (Jon) Bon Jovi -- it took years for him to get in." (UltimateClassicRock)

  • Legendary producer Peter Asher -- also known as one-half of the hit duo Peter & Gordon, successfully underwent emergency brain surgery. Asher, who produced nearly all of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt's classic '70s albums, posted a photo of him recovering in his hospital bed, writing, "Two small holes in my head but I am on the mend and should be outta here by next week which I am really excited for. I am honestly just bored because I'm usually so active and can't stand having to stay in one spot but I am grateful things went so well."

Flashback: The Beach Boys Release 'Good Vibrations'

It was 56 years ago today (October 10th, 1966) that the Beach Boys' released their masterpiece, "Good Vibrations." The song went on to top the chart for one week exactly two months later (December 10th to 16th, 1966). "Good Vibrations" was bandleader Brian Wilson's first attempt at a "modular" recording approach, which pieced together many different musical sections to form a constantly changing musical landscape. The song was also unique for its choice of lead instruments, which included flutes, cellos, and a version of a theremin, called a tannerin, which provided the song's eerie "woo woo" sound.

Wilson recorded the track over a series of months, using over 90 hours of tape and dozens of session musicians at several different Los Angeles recording studios. The song cost between $75,000 and $100,000 to record -- an astonishing amount for 1966. "Good Vibrations" was such an immediate hit that it reportedly sold 230,000 copies in the first four days of its release. Although it only topped the chart for a single week, "Good Vibrations" went on to become the group's first million-selling single.

The song was originally begun during the group's 1966 Pet Sounds sessions, with music by Wilson and lyrics by his then-collaborator, Tony Asher. Wilson continued to tinker with the song's melody and production, but all without a permanent set of lyrics. Wilson's first cousin and bandmate Mike Love asked to take a crack at the lyrics as he had done for the Beach Boys' two other Number One hits, 1964's "I Get Around," and 1965's "Help Me, Rhonda."

"Good Vibrations" is considered the musical "missing link" between the Beach Boys' 1966 Pet Sounds album and their then-unreleased 1967 album Smile. Wilson never intended for "Good Vibrations" to be included in the original track listing for Smile, but finally succumbed to record company pressure in 1967 to include the track on the album. After Smile was abandoned, it was included on the album that was released in its place, called Smiley Smile.

"Good Vibrations" continues to either top or place highly in various rock and roll "Best Of" lists, most notably in 1997 when it topped Britain's Mojo magazine's list of Top 100 Records of All Time -- beating out the Beatles' 1967 double A-sided single "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever."

Over the years, the song has mainly been performed as one of the group's many show-stopping encores. In the early '70s however, the group sometimes took fans by surprise by opening their concerts with the song.

Mike Love told us that when looking back on the group's golden era -- "Good Vibrations" stands out as the stars perfectly aligning in terms of creativity and commerce: "Well, I think 'Good Vibrations was probably the height of our creativity in the '60s. It was not only successful -- really successful -- but it was very unique. (It was) probably the least derivative of our hit singles. Meaning, y'know, everything is based on something that came before -- that's what I mean by derivative. But with 'Good Vibrations,' it was so darn different, so unique sounding. And yet it was successful as well. And I admit to liking things that are both successful and creative (laughs)."

Noted Beach Boys author and historian Jon Stebbins says that mixing Wilson's groundbreaking music and record production with cousin Mike Love's ability to craft hook-based relatable lyrics created a simply unbeatable musical combination: "Y'know, Brian was kind of esoteric, and the stuff that Brian created that your ear enjoys -- like Brian is like bliss for the ear. The things that he created are the things that give your ears orgasms, y'know? They're so wonderful to hear over and over again and you get addicted to them (and) you wanna hear them again and again. That's Brian. But the things that make it interesting the first time you see them or the first time you hear them directly are some of the things that Mike added in there -- and also things that made them so catchy."

Wilson's youngest brother Carl Wilson sang the lead vocals, with co-writer Mike Love supplying the song's chorus. Brian Wilson revealed to us that it was none other than his brother Dennis Wilson who contributed the church-like organ during the slower portion of the group's 1966 Number One hit "Good Vibrations." Brian explained how Dennis ended up with such a high profile spot on his debut as the Beach Boys' keyboardist: "He was sitting at the organ, and I said, 'I wanna play the organ,' and he says, 'Well, let me play.' So I said, 'Alright,' and I taught him his part."

The Beach Boys' Al Jardine says that he recalls the "Good Vibrations" sessions as being highly charged and exhausting: "The technology and the recording machines would even change while we were going through these processes. From four-track, to eight-track, to 16-track. And so we had more oppor. . . more availability of overdubbing. So we'd work long hours. Double tracking, triple tracking. It took six months to do 'Good Vibrations.'"

Brian Wilson admitted that even during his recent concert tours, he recalls one of the vocal sessions' funniest moments: "Every time I have to sing 'Good Vibrations' it takes me back to the time when Al Jardine had to stand up on a big box because he was too short for the microphone. And he had to stand up on a box, so he could sing with us on microphone. And we did 'Good Vibrations' that way and he fell off the box! (Laughs) Right in the middle of a take!"

Mike Love still takes tremendous pride in writing the words to Brian Wilson's music for the Beach Boys' epic 1966 chart-topper: "It was a pleasure to work with my cousin Brian on co-creating that song. And, I think, may years ago, Rolling Stone had some poll and they regarded 'Good Vibrations' as the 'Single of the Century,' or something like that."

2016 saw the release of the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations 50th Anniversary Edition" vinyl EP.

The sunburst disc features five different versions of "Good Vibrations" -- the remastered 2001 track; various sessions; an alternate take; the song's instrumental track; a 1968 concert rehearsal; and the single's original 1966 B-side, the Pet Sounds instrumental, "Let's Go Away For Awhile."

The 2022 remixed version of Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys features the latest and most definitive stereo mix of "Good Vibrations" utilizing the most up to date studio technology.

Bruce Springsteen & Jon Bon Jovi Get Ice Cream In New Jersey

It doesn't get more "New Jersey" than Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi popping into Freehold Township's landmark Jersey Freeze for a couple of ice cream cones. The Asbury Park Press reported the pair of rock icons pulled into the hometown favorite of Springsteen's and ordered a pair of cones: "sprinkles for Bon Jovi and chocolate dip for Springsteen."

"The Boss," who's been a lifelong customer, brought Bon Jovi -- Sayreville, New Jersey's favorite son -- for a quick treat on this past Wednesday (October 5th) when Jersey Freeze owners Matt Cangialosi and Katie DiNonno took a photo with the pair. DiNonno said: "This was me and Matt's first picture with (Springsteen) -- we usually don't bother him when he comes. But today it was both of them -- there's no way. I'm taking a picture. It was fun."

APP.com reported that during Spingsteen's August 2016 concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, he pressed the crowd if they were fans of the legendary ice cream parlor, asking, "Who's been to Jersey Freeze? We'd stop there and it was much smaller. They didn't have any hot dogs or hamburgers. They only sold ice cream and they sold two kinds: one was chocolate and one was vanilla. Just soft ice cream, that was all you could get. When I was a kid, I didn't like chocolate or vanilla, I just liked the cones. So the guy used to save all the broken cones for me."

Jon Bon Jovi, has long showed his charitable side in his home state, having opened the JBJ Soul Kitchen in Red Bank, New Jersey, where "customers pay the minimum donation or volunteer in some way to earn a voucher for a meal." Bon Jovi told us that he's more interested in using his career to serve local and global communities than to bolster his ego and bankbook: "Building a medical clinic, which I did in my hometown, becoming involved in the team to build playgrounds at foster homes and put beds in Covenant Houses and stuff like that, giving money to disaster relief, just giving back. . . That's the kind of stuff that's inspiring me now. It's not about, 'Hey man, we got a new record out. This is a rock band!' Yech!"

Dead & Company Roll Out Final Tour Dates

Dead & Company have just rolled out their final tour dates. The band's 2023 spring and summer run will play a total of 27 concerts alternating between sheds, arenas, and stadiums. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 14th at 10 a.m. local venue time.

Multiple dates are set for Los Angeles, California; Saratoga Springs and Queens, New York; Chicago, Illinois; Boulder, Colorado; George, Washington -- and the tour's finale, which plays on July 14th and 15th at San Francisco's Oracle park.

The group was formed back in 2015, and along with Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann -- the band is rounded out with guitarist John Mayer, former-Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge, and longtime RatDog and Dead sideman, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti.

Mickey Hart shed light on the emotions the Dead feels once on stage and in the moment: "It's magic, y'know? You can't really describe it, but it's transformational in nature. I mean, you're taking a spirit, and you're changing it into some kind of a form. In this case, it's vibration -- controlled vibration, which we call sound or music. So, that's the great alchemist's work, y'know? That's what we're doing -- we're taking nothing and turning it into something of great beauty. So, that's the alchemical work. We're sculpting in sound."

Guitarist Bob Weir told us that he still feels as passionate about performing his Grateful Dead songs today as he did when he was on the road with the late-Jerry Garcia: "I love these tunes. I mean, I love 'em as deeply as I love anything. There was a while that I couldn't even play 'em 'cause I couldn't, y'know, I couldn't -- emotionally, I wasn't ready for it. And then I got lonesome enough for 'em, and then, y'know, every time we'd bring out a new one of those old chestnuts, y'know, I'd get plenty misty -- and I still do."

Drummer Bill Kreutzmann told us that he's still just as fond of the Dead's legion of fans as he was in the 1960's: "I don't dissuade people of their ideas; I just wait for them to hear the band. God bless Deadheads. Their fantasies and their ideas are what have fueled us, y'know? They come up with the best scenarios for things, y'know? And I just let 'em have all their flourishes and let 'em have all their great ideas. I think that's priceless."

Dead & Company will next perform on January 14th through 17th, 2023 in Riviera Cancun, Mexico at Playing In The Sand.

Joey Ramone Estate Sells Stake In Publishing For $10 Million

The estate of late-Ramones frontman Joey Ramone has sold a stake of his publishing rights and non-exclusive rights to the singer's name and likeness for $10 million. According to The Wall Street Journal, "The acquisition was part of a larger $2 billion partnership between independent publisher Primary Wave Music and investment company Brookfield Asset Management." Joey Ramone died at age 49 from lymphatic cancer.

Among the songs included in the deal are "I Wanna Be Sedated," "Judy Is A Punk," "Beat On The Brat," "Swallow My Pride," and "Rock N' Roll High School."

Joey Ramone's brother Mitchel Hyman -- better known as musician Mickey Leigh (pronunced "Lee") -- said in the statement announcing the deal: "I'm happy to welcome Primary Wave as partners in my brother's interests in Ramones. I'm thoroughly convinced of their eagerness to perpetuate his legacy, and their sincerity about doing it in a way that will never compromise his credibility. I, very much, am looking forward to working with them."

A few years before his 2001 death, Joey Ramone told us that the Ramones essentially did everything they set out to do: "Maybe the only thing that didn't come our way was makin' a lot of money. But that's not what it's about. It's the love of it, the art of it. The Ramones were the trailblazers for the whole punk rock movement. I'd say we unconsciously kind of wrote the blueprint."

Kanye West Defends 'White Lives Matter' T-Shirt In Tucker Carlson Interview

During an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, Kanye West defended wearing a "White Lives Matter" t-shirt during Paris Fashion Week, saying that "they do." He explained, "I do certain things from a feeling. I just channel the energy, it just feels right. It's using a gut instinct, a connection with God and just brilliance." He also discussed his dad's reaction to the t-shirt, saying, "I thought the shirt was a funny shirt. I thought the idea of wearing it was funny. And I said ‘Dad why do you think it's funny?' And he said ‘just a black man stating the obvious.'"

On the backlash, he said, "They're looking for an explanation — as an artist you don't have to give an explanation but as a leader you do. So the answer to why I wrote ‘White Lives Matter' on a shirt is they do. It's an obvious thing."

When Carlson asked why he thought the "White Lives Matter" statement was so controversial, West blamed "a group mob" of "liberal nazis" as well as the media, which he said pushes white societal norms. He explained, "Because the same people that have stripped us of an identity and labeled us as a color have told us what it means to be black and the vernacular you're supposed to have."

Ye also revealed that the controversy started after a black woman said she "felt traumatized" after seeing it. He explained, "It's like a black girl saying ‘I felt traumatized when I saw a black man wearing something he wasn't supposed to wear."

KANYE TALKS LIZZO

During the interview, Kanye also talked about Lizzo's weight, saying that he believes the media is perpetuating the idea that being "overweight" is a goal. He explained, "Lizzo works with my trainer, a friend of mine. When Lizzo loses ten pounds and announces it, the bots — that's a term for telemarketers on the internet — the bots they attack her because the media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal, when it's actually unhealthy."

He continued, "Let's put aside that it's fashion and Vogue, which it's not, or if someone thinks it's attractive, to each his own, it's actually clinically unhealthy. And for people to promote that, it's demonic."

KANYE RESPONDS TO ADIDAS SAYING THEIR PARTNERSHIP IS ‘UNDER REVIEW'

Meanwhile, Adidas has announced that their Yeezy partnership with Kanye West is currently "under review" for the foreseeable future amid his "White Lives Matter" t-shirt scandal. They said in a statement, "Adidas has always been about creativity, innovation and supporting athletes and artists to achieve their vision. The Adidas Yeezy partnership is one of the most successful collaborations in our industry's history. We are proud of our team that has worked tirelessly throughout our collaboration with Ye and the iconic products that were born from it. We also recognize that all successful partnerships are rooted in mutual respect and shared values. After repeated efforts to privately resolve the situation, we have taken the decision to place the partnership under review. We will continue to co-manage the current product during this period."

West responded to the news via Instagram, saying ""F*****CK ADIDAS. I AM ADIDAS ADIDAS RAPED AND STOLE MY DESIGNS."
