The Rolling Stones' Docuseries Premiering In August On Epix

Coming to Epix on August 7th is the four-part docuseries, My Life As A Rolling Stone. The specials, produced in conjunction with the band in celebration of its 60th anniversary, will feature an hour-long look each on Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, and the late-Charlie Watts. Neither former members Bill Wyman nor Mick Taylor will be given their own spotlight docs.

Rolling Stone reported the shows' co-directors -- Oliver Murray and Clare Travenor -- are no strangers in covering rock's original bad boys with Murray directing the 2019 doc on co-founding bassist Bill Wyman, The Quiet One, and Travenor behind the camera for TV special based around Keith Richards' memoir, Life.

Back in April, when the British rights for the series were picked up by the BBC, The Guardian reported the films would feature, "unseen footage and exclusive stories from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood interwoven with new and archive interviews and performance,'while the Watts film is told through his bandmates and peers. Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Steven Tyler, Chrissie Hynde, Slash, and PP Arnold are among those who have contributed to the films."

Although the Rolling Stones have always been dealing with the shadow of their early days -- Mick Jagger explained that for the most part, they remain one of the lucky bands not lumped in with any particular era or decade: "I find it fascinating when I hear other people talking about it and other groups copying certain periods. I don't find it, very, kind of, interesting to look back too much. You can't ignore what you were, but I think to kind of take that stuff too seriously. . . I'm glad that the Stones aren't labeled a ''60's band' -- and I find increasingly that they're not. They're just not completely tracked in there. That's taken quite a lot of effort."

Keith Richards said that more often than not over the years, he's been the one to lead the charge when it comes to the studio: "I always am for that, because, y'know, the guitars and drums -- I have to play and I have to get them to play, y'know? So that Mick has something (laughs) decent to sing to. I mean, I am the winder-upper in that respect, yeah."

The Rolling Stones next play on June 25th at London's Hyde Park.

Billy Joel Set For Single Australian Stadium Gig

Billy Joel will head Down Under for one night only on December 10th to play Melbourne, Australia's Melbourne Cricket Ground. Tickets to the show, which marks Billy's performance in Melbourne in 14 years, will go on sale Monday, July 4th (10 a.m. AEST) via frontiertouring.com/billyjoel.

According to the announcement, "Performing one Australian show only in Melbourne's most iconic stadium, the concert is presented in partnership with 'Always Live,' a state-wide celebration of contemporary live music supported by the Victorian Government through Visit Victoria."

Billy Joel said in a statement rolling out the December Melbourne gig:

I'm happy to announce that I'm finally coming to Australia to do one exclusive show at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as part of 'Always Live.' It's been a really long time since I've been there, I'm really looking forward to coming and I'm bringing the whole family and we're going to enjoy it. I'll see you there.

Billy Joel told us he was barely in his teens when he realized the power that his musical talent held: "There's a wizardry to it, there's kind of a sorcery to the manipulation of sound. I mean, I was just a little guy; I wasn't a real social butterfly. I'd be at somebody's house and I'd kind of wander over and play the piano and it enchanted other people. And when I came of age and started liking girls, I realized, this is better than a sports car (laughs), y'know? I play the piano and I'd look up and there's a girl, I play a little more, there's another girl; I said, 'This is great.' I recognized the power that's inherent in music."

Lorde Drops Video For 'The Path', Opens Up About 'Confounding' Year

Lorde dropped the music video for her latest single, "The Path" on Tuesday (June 21st).

She shared the video in a newsletter to fans, writing, "On the occasion of the solstice, I wanted to share a sixth video with you, for THE PATH. This video is the first chapter in the mystical Solar Power story, a prequel to the title video. You see my character joining her friends and family on the island where they've chosen to start life anew, arriving in her trademark suit and quickly being transformed by nature's strange magic."

The video's debut comes a year after Lorde announced the release of Solar Power. She explained, "I can honestly say it has been the year with the highest highs and lowest lows I think I've ever experienced. It took people awhile to get the album — I still get emails every day from people who are just coming around to it now! — and that response was really confounding and at times painful to sit with at first."

Solar Power debuted last summer at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

There was no real big partnership moment. I don't have to ask anybody anything. I just stood there a little bit like I did when I was about 17."

Roger Daltrey Launches 'Who I Was' Solo Trek

Roger Daltrey kicked off "Who Was I" UK tour on June 20th on Bournemouth, England at the Bournemouth International Centre. The Who frontman -- whose backing band is led by Pete Townshend's kid brother and longtime Who guitarist Simon Townshend -- also features Simon's son -- and Pete's nephew, Ben Townshend on drums.

Daltrey, who opened with the 1980 Pete Townshend solo classic "Let My Love Open The Door," included such who evergreens as "Squeeze Box," "Another Tricky Day," "Who Are You," "Tattoo," "Baba O'Riley" and a show closing "The Kids Are Alright" -- along with "Breaks The News" the 2019 Who song written by Simon Townshend.

Also included in the setlist were a smattering of solo favorites including "Giving It All Away," "Waiting For Your Love," the Pete Townshend-written "After The Fire," "Days Of Light," and "Waiting For a Friend," among others.

Roger Daltrey, who turned 78 in March, says that there's no reason for rockers to stop being relevant artistically just because they hit the 60-year-old mark: "I've always laughed at people who say, 'Oh, you're too old to rock n' roll.' I don't. . . to me, it's got nothing to do with your age or any of that -- it's to do with the music, and what that music itself generates."

Daltrey, who has been working with the youngest Townshend brother exclusively over the past 25 years, was more than happy to have Simon -- who's 15-year-younger than Pete -- contribute to the sessions for 2019's WHO album with his original tune, "Break The News": "And there I've got a Simon Townshend song, which I'm glad to have done. Because Simon is a great musician and I've been with him since 1994 -- a long, long time. And he writes great songs, Simon. But this one, it's just something lighthearted on the album, but it's got a lot of tenderness in it and I like it. That's been nice doing that. I enjoyed doing that."

In addition to Simon and Ben Townshend, the new touring ensemble was rounded out by legendary Who associate Billy Nichols on backing vocals, British keyboard veteran Geriant Watkins, percussionist Jody Linscott, John Hogg on bass, Doug Boyle on guitar, Steve Weston on harmonica -- and Who orchestral tour veteran, violinist Katie Jacoby.

Billie Eilish Used A Body Double To Go Incognito At Coachella

Billlie Eilish used a body double as a decoy at Coachella in order to go incognito.

The singer told Matt Wilkinson that she gave one of her dancers her socks and shoes and disguised her with a black wig, sunglasses and a mask.

The 20-year-old added, "I put her up at the back of the stage and she stood there while the lights went on and everybody thought it was me. And nobody ever knew it wasn't me, literally nobody knew. And while she's up there, I put on a big black coat and a traffic vest and a hood and just glasses."

Mick Jagger Over Covid, Milan Show To Play As Scheduled

Mick Jagger posted a message on Instagram on Monday (June 20th) ensuring Rolling Stones fans he's on board for tonight's (June 21st) show at Milan, Italy's San Siro Stadium.

Following Jagger testing positive for the Covid, the Stones postponed their June 13th Amsterdam show and the June 17th concert at Bern, Switzerland.

Mick Jagger was asked what he believes is the secret for the constant influx of new and younger Stones fans filling the massive stadiums around the world: "Well, the older ones that've got all the money bring the younger ones and pay for them, and the younger ones say, ‘alright.' That, I mean it's very gratifying. I mean, I think they, a lot of times, y'know, they've heard about you through their parents, or their older brothers or sisters, or something like that."

Def Leppard Prepping Major Coffee Table Book Retrospective

Coming soon via Genesis Publications is Def Leppard's first official band biography, titled Definitely: The Official Story Of Def Leppard. The book, which is described as "Part memoir, part scrapbook," will be the ultimate official record of Leppard's legendary career.

According to the press release, the tome "is narrated by the band in their own words, illustrated with photography and memorabilia from the Def Leppard archives. Definitely presents over four decades of the band's history through handwritten correspondence, rare vinyl pressings, tour memorabilia, music video storyboards, draft album artwork, press cuttings, previously unpublished photographs and much more."

Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen revealed that although some bands that span the decades soldier on despite deep inner-band turmoil, Leppard are still a bunch of dudes that love hanging out and making music together: "I think the saving grace is we still like each (laughs) other. We can all hang out in the same room, y'know what I mean? We don't take separate cars, we don't have separate hotels. And I think a lot of the success we had was fantastic. But honestly, I think a band grows from some of the not so good times. Like, losing (founding guitarist) Steve Clark and, y'know, my accident. I think that's been really important for us, and it's really sad to see other bands not quite being a team."

During Def Leppard's 2019 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, frontman Joe Elliott spoke about how every time the band was about to be counted out, they not only rebounded -- but came back stronger: "And that's the way that it always played out throughout our career. So, let's face facts, people here: If alcoholism, car crashes, and cancer couldn't kill us -- then the '90s had no (bleep-bleep) chance"

Taylor Hawkins Tributes Add Special Guests

Even more artists have signed on to appear at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert sset for next September in London and Los Angeles. Hawkins, the drummer for the Foo Fighters, died on March 25th at age 50 after suffering an alleged drug overdose in Columbia.

Loudersound.com reported Dave Grohl's Nirvana bandmate, bassist Krist Novoselic, Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Nile Rodgers, Pink, Foo Fighters' producer Greg Kurstin, former Queens Of The Stone Age collaborator Alain Johannes, and 12-year-old drum prodigy Nandi Bushell will be on board for the September 3rd show at London's Wembley Stadium.

The September 27th show at The Forum in L.A. will now also include Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson, LeAnn Rimes, Miley Cyrus, and Joan Jett.

When we last caught up with the late-Taylor Hawkins, he explained that Foo Fighters are actually bigger in other territories across the globe: "As a band, we've always actually been a little bit bigger outside of America. England, we do really well and Australia we do really well and a lot of parts of Europe we do well. And we do well in America, but mainly in the big cities, y'know. We're not huge necessarily in the Midwest and places like that because, frankly, America's big."

Happy Birthday, Ray Davies!!!

Happy Birthday to Kinks co-founder and main songwriter Ray Davies who turns 78 today (June 21st)!!! January 2021 saw the release of the Kinks' 50th anniversary editions of their 1970 classic Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround, Part One -- better known as Lola. The album was issued domestically as a multi-format release, including a "Deluxe Box Set," vinyl, Deluxe double-CD, single CD, and available across digital formats.

In 2018, Ray Davies released his latest solo set, titled, Our Country: Americana Act II. Guitar World -- the followup to 2017's Americana collection, and based on his 2013 memoirs. The new set featured tracks recorded with the Jayhawks, along with Davies revisiting tracks from his discography, from a new rendition of the Kinks' Muswell Hillbillies cut 'Oklahoma U.S.A.' to 'The Real World' from Davies' 2007 solo LP Working Man's Cafe."

In March 2017, Ray Davies was knighted by Prince Charles at London's Buckingham Palace. Davies met with the press after the investiture ceremony, telling The Telegraph, "I don't think of myself as a musician, strangely enough. I'm a creative person. If I had a card, it would say Sir Raymond Davies, creative person. When I started the gig when we had our first hit 'You Really Got Me,' I just wanted to make enough money to go and live in Spain for the rest of my life and paint pictures, and one thing led to another and I ended up here." Davies revealed that he's working on a new musical about siblings, which he admits is "partially inspired" by his rocky relationship with kid brother and Kinks co-founder, Dave Davies.

The Kinks' songwriter joined a long list of rock artists who have been knighted by the Queen, including Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison, and British music legend Cliff Richard.

In 2014, Davies was inducted into the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame, but was unable to attend due to the then-recent death of his sister Joyce. Davies and younger brother and Kinks co-founding guitarist Dave Davies are still in tentative talks to reunite in celebration of the band's -- now-long passed -- 50th anniversary, but, as usual, accounts of where the pair are at differ with each new report.

Back in 2010, Davies released his star-studded album of duets featuring over a dozen remakes of his Kinks classics, called See My Friends - Ray Davies & Special Guests. Highlights on the set include his re-recording with Bruce Springsteen of the 1981 Give The People What They Want track "Better Things," and the Kinks' 1964 breakthrough hit "You Really Got Me" with Metallica. Also joining Davies on the album are Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora on "Celluloid Heroes," Jackson Browne on "Waterloo Sunset," Billy Corgan for a medley of "All Day And All Of The Night/Destroyer," and the late Alex Chilton -- in his final studio recording -- tackling "'Til The End Of The Day."

In 2011, it was first announced that Davies and Kinks drummer Mick Avory were busy compiling a new Kinks album, which may feature the first new music from the band in over two decades. So far, no release date has been announced.

Ray Davies, who wrote such legendary Kinks classics as "You Really Got Me," "Waterloo Sunset," "Come Dancing," "Lola," "Sunny Afternoon," "All Day And All Of The Night," "Celluloid Heroes" and many more, insists that songwriting is just as mysterious to him today as it was when he started: "There are no rules to songwriting, and I'd like to think it gets easier because I know more, but the more one does, the more you realize how limitless it is, y'know? There's so many different ways of writing things. There are no hard-and-fast rules, and it doesn't get any easier. It does get a little trickier the more you know. You think you know what you're doing -- actually, you don't know what you're doing."

Britney's Attorney Slams Jamie Spears For Requesting That His Daughter Sit For A Deposition

Britney Spears' attorney slammed Jamie Spears for filing court documents requesting that Britney be deposed for trashing him on social media

According to documents obtained by Page Six, the elder Spears accused his daughter of continuing to "make public social media posts containing incendiary allegations of various factual matters."

The pop star's attorney, Matthew Rosengart told the outlet Friday (June 17th), "Mr. Spears, who was ignominiously suspended by the Court in September, continues to disgrace himself, especially through this most-recent foolish and ill-advised filing, which is riddled with errors and falsehoods, as he himself knows."

He added, "In addition to trying to bully his own daughter, he is now pathetically reduced to trying to intimidate her, while abusing the legal process and running and hiding from his own deposition. Anyone else would be ashamed by these tactics, but he and his representatives are truly shameless. In terms of ‘impugning his character,' Mr. Spears did that to himself long ago."

Some of the issues Jamie wants his daugher to answer for under oath include allegations that she was forced to give 8 tubes of blood for medical treatment, was forced to participate in therapy and was not allowed to own pain-reliever meds.

Christine McVie Unsure If Fleetwood Mac Is Healthy Enough To Tour

Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie is casting doubt on whether the band will ever hit the road again. McVie's upcoming solo set, Songbird (A Solo Collection), drops on June 24th and features guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Lindsey Buckingham, and Steve Winwood.

While chatting with Rolling Stone, McVie spoke about the Mac's most recent members -- Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Crowded House leader Neil Finn: "Those guys were great. We have a great time with them, but we've kind of broke up now, so I hardly ever see them. I don't communicate with Stevie (Nicks) very much either. When we were on the last tour, we did a lot. We always sat next to each other on the plane and we got on really well. But since the band broke up, I've not been speaking to her at all."

When pressed if Fleetwood Mac still exists as a working band, McVie admitted, "Well, not as we know it. I don't know. It's impossible to say. We might get back together, but I just couldn't say for sure. . . I don't feel physically up for it. I'm in quite bad health. I've got a chronic back problem which debilitates me. I stand up to play the piano, so I don't know if I could actually physically do it. What's that saying? The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak."

She went on to say, "I couldn't sit at the rig I play. You have to stand up to play the piano and the Hammond Organ is beneath that, so it's a bit difficult to think about sitting down and doing it. Anyway, I wouldn't want to do that. . . I don't think John (McVie is) up for another tour. He's got health issues, so I don't know if he would be up for it. You'd have to ask him. . . But I'm getting a bit long in the teeth here. I'm quite happy being at home. I don't know if I ever want to tour again. It's bloody hard work."

Regarding the possible return of ousted guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, McVie said, "I'd always want Lindsey back. He's the best. Neil and Mike were such a cheerful couple, but Lindsey was missed."

Ultimately, whether Fleetwood Mac will return to the road -- featuring any lineup -- remains firmly a question mark, according to McVie, who revealed, "I really can't say for sure because I could be wrong. So I'll just leave it open and say that we might."

Lindsey Buckingham understands that the psychodrama between him and former lover Stevie Nicks -- not to mention the divorce of Christine and John McVie -- was the gasoline that ran the engine of the band, especially during the legendary Rumours album: "One of the real draws of Fleetwood Mac beyond the music in those earlier days was this musical soap opera. And it was a very literal portrayal of what was really going on behind the scenes. Y'know, you could certainly make a case for saying that we made a great deal of success on a career level but we were pretty dismal failures in our personal lives, for any number of years, y'know?"
