Weddings have really changed over time. Nowadays they’re less about tradition and more about fun. It seems like couples are focusing more on what is personal to them.

Which means throwing away what doesn’t work. Here are 10 wedding traditions that are outdated:

1. No black at weddings. This used to be reserved for funerals only. But now black is considered chic.

2. The bride’s family pays for everything. These days, everyone chips in.

3. You have to bring a gift to the wedding. Most couples want gifts sent ahead.

4. If it’s your second wedding, it should be small. Who said that? Maybe it should be bigger than the first. Go wild.

5. Asking for money is rude. Now it’s common to send cash or help fund their honeymoon.

6. The bridesmaids must match. Boring!

7. Wedding parties must be split by gender. Not anymore.

8. Everyone gets a plus one. People are more selective now because everything is so expensive . . . and they might not let you bring your kids either.

9. The bouquet toss is mandatory. Here’s the best part about bucking tradition: Nothing is mandatory anymore! You do you.

10. The dress has to be white. Wear whatever color you want. It’s your day.
