NFL Cold-Weather Hack: Does Cayenne in Your Socks Really Keep Your Feet Warm?

It’s pretty chilly across the country right now. And there’s a cold-weather hack going viral, courtesy of the NFL.

In the Rams-Bears pre-game on Sunday, they mentioned some of the Rams players were putting CAYENNE PEPPER in their socks. (???) It’s supposed to keep your feet warm. But does it really work?

The answer is apparently . . . YES. Experts say it really can make a difference.

(For what it’s worth, the Rams won in overtime . . . on a kick, no less.)

Capsaicin is what makes peppers spicy. If you rub it on your skin, it widens the blood vessels . . . helps with blood flow . . . and causes a warming sensation.

So, feel free to sprinkle some chili pepper in your socks before you leave for work on cold days. Just don’t overdo it. If you use too much, it can feel like BURNING instead of warming.

One site recommends half-a-teaspoon of cayenne mixed with one ounce of foot powder. Or, play it safe and start smaller in case you have a bad reaction.

The other downside is it WILL stain your socks red. (Rams nose tackle Poona Ford showed off his stained socks after the game.)
