HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Vietnam Veteran and Medal of Honor recipient Larry Taylor of Signal Mountain will be laid to rest Wednesday.

The Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center is calling on veterans, community members, and children of all ages to line the streets on Wednesday afternoon and help pay tribute to Taylor.

His funeral procession will depart the Heritage Center and travel to the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The official route for the funeral procession will start at 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Broad Street and West Aquarium Way.

The procession will then travel down Market Street until it reaches E. MLK Boulevard, where they will turn and continue down until they reach S. Holtzclaw Avenue and enter the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The heritage center says the committal service with full United States Military Honors for Captain Taylor is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at the Armed Forces Pavilion at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The public service will conclude with a 21-gun salute, the playing of Echo Taps and an Army Apache helicopter flyover. A private graveside service for the family will be held afterwards.

Due to limited parking, the Heritage Center requests all attendees for the committal service to park at the Army National Guard’s parking lot at 1801 S. Holtzclaw Avenue and ride a shuttle bus to the Armed Forces Pavilion at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The shuttle service will start at 1 p.m. and continue up to 3:25 p.m., and the buses will restart once the committal service has concluded at approximately 4 p.m.
In addition, those who wish to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Medal of Honor Recipient Captain Larry Taylor can sign a special condolence book that has been placed in the lobby of the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center.

CDOT says the following roads will close Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. for the procession:

Broad Street northbound between W Aquarium Way and Broad Street
W Aquarium Way between Broad Street and Market Street

As an Army first lieutenant and Cobra helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, Taylor flew hundreds of missions and saved countless lives. But no rescue flight was as daring, or as meaningful to Captain Taylor, as the one for which he got his Medal of Honor for.

In one of our Tomorrow Town Tennessee podcasts, we told the story of the combat action that happened on June 18th where Captain Larry Taylor saved the lives of 4 soldiers in Vietnam.

In September 2023 when Captain Larry Taylor was awarded the Medal of Honor, it was the first time since World War II someone who grew up in Hamilton County Tennessee received the honor.

After getting his medal, Captain Taylor was honored with a parade in his hometown.

81-year-old Captain Taylor passed away on January 28th inside of his Signal Mountain home.
