TikTok Health Tip: Is Drinking Hot Water Healthier Than Cold?

Google says searches for “hot water” are through the roof, and it has nothing to do with the recent cold snap. Searches for “hot water” and “hot water in the morning” just hit an all-time high.
It’s because of a health hack going around TikTok that says drinking hot water is WAY healthier than cold. Especially hot water on an empty stomach. It’s supposed to help with everything from digestion to circulation.
So, is it just TikTok nonsense? Or is there some truth behind it?
It’s not really a new tip. Warm drinks are big in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It’s supposed to be good for your Qi. (chee)
If you ask people in those circles, they’ll probably say hot water is better. It’s also supposed to help with anxiety, weight loss, and filter out more toxins.
But if you ask most WESTERN doctors, they’ll say it all fantasy or at least overblown.
A nutrition expert at the University of Virginia talked about it, and said more water in GENERAL is good. But whether it’s hot or cold doesn’t really matter.
Hot OR cold water can help with digestion, because hydration in general helps. But she says the idea that hot water “flushes” more toxins is just wrong.
Your liver and kidneys deal with toxins, and more water won’t hurt. But drinking it cold is just as good.
