Your Sleep Tracker App Could Be Making You More Anxious

Do you use a sleep tracking app? Because that smartwatch might not be helping your sleep like you think.

A new study out of the University of Bergen in Norway looked at more than 1,000 adults and found a surprising trend. Sleep apps are popular, but they don’t always improve sleep. In fact, for some people, they can make things worse.

There’s even a name for it. It’s called “Orthosomnia” . . . and it means having an unhealthy obsession with getting perfect sleep data.

Here are some more stats from the study. About 18% of users said sleep trackers made them more worried. Another 14% said it made them feel like something was wrong with their sleep. And younger adults felt it the most.

Also, if you already struggle with insomnia, the effects can be even stronger.

Tracking your sleep can be very helpful. Especially if you have sleep apnea. Just don’t stress out over trying to get a “perfect sleep.”
