Bullet Train held on to the top spot at the domestic box office during its second weekend, pulling in $13.4 million. The film saw a 55% decline from a week ago. Deadline reports that this past weekend was the slowest yet this summer, with the box office seeing just $66.8 million for all movies.

During its second week of streaming on Netflix, Purple Hearts has been watched more than 100 million hours. Despite the film's popularity, it's facing backlash for featuring misogynistic and racist characters. In one scene, a Marine makes a toast and says, "This one is to life, love and hunting down some goddamn Arabs, baby!"

Director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum responded to the criticism. "I hope that people understand that in order for characters to grow, they need to be flawed in the beginning. So we very much intentionally created two characters that had been bred to hate each other," she said.

Star and executive producer of the movie Sofia Carson commented, "Why I fell in love with the movie is that it's a love story but it's so much more than that. It's two hearts, one red, one blue, two worlds apart, who are really raised to hate each other. Through the power of love, they learn to lead with empathy and compassion and love each other and turn into this beautiful shade of purple. We wanted to represent both sides as accurately as possible."

Carson added, "What I think I've learned to do as an artist is separate myself from all of that and just listen to what the world is feeling and reacting to with the film."

However, Sylvester explained that the video was taken out of context. In a video posted to Instagram, Sylvester said, "Some people thought that she was invading my space, and that's actually not true." What was really going on is that he was "flirting with the chef," and pushed her away so that he "could have a one-on-one moment with the chef." DENISE DOWSE DIES AT 64: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Insecure actress Denise Dowse has died at the age of 64. Her sister Tracey Dowse announced the news on Denise's official Instagram page Saturday (August 13th), calling her "the most amazing sister, a consummate, illustrious actress, mentor and director. She was my very best friend and final family member." On August 7th, Tracey shared on Instagram that her younger sister was hospitalized due to a "virulent form of meningitis." Denise was known for her roles as Vice Principal Yvonne Teasley on 90210, Judge Rebecca Damsen on The Guardian, and therapist Rhonda Pine on Insecure. She also held roles in the films Ray and Coach Carter.

ROBYN GRIGGS DIES AT 49: Page Six reports that soap opera star Robyn Griggs passed away recently at the age of 49. The news was announced on her official Facebook page Saturday (August 13th). "Hi everyone, With a heavy heart, I am saddened to announce Robyn's passing. However, she is no longer suffering and would want us to remember that and the good memories.I will never forget how open she was to telling her story, and accepting of me helping her tell it. She wanted to help people and spread the word of her story to do it. I was honored to do so.RIP my friend, I love you and smile when I think of you," the post read. Griggs was best known for her work on Another World and One Life to Live. She opened up about her stage 4 cervical cancer diagnosis in 2020, and last month she shared that she had four new tumors.

TEDDY RAY DIES AT 32: According to People, comedian and actor Teddy Ray, who was known for his recent appearance on HBO Max's Pause with Sam Jay, has died at the age of 32. Authorities received notice of a death at a private residence in Rancho Mirage, California, at approximately 10 a.m. Friday (August 12th). Ray's cause of death is not yet known.

WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY ISSUES STATEMENT CONDEMNING THREAT AGAINST J.K. ROWLING: Following the attack on author Salman Rushdie last week, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling tweeted, "Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok." A Twitter user responded with a threat that Rowling would be next. "Don't worry you are next," the user wrote. On Sunday (August 14th), Warner Bros. Discovery released a statement condemning this threat: "Warner Bros. Discovery strongly condemns the threats made against J.K. Rowling. We stand with her and all the authors, storytellers and creators who bravely express their creativity and opinions. Anne Heche "is not expected to survive" the catastrophic brain injury she suffered during last week's car crash.

A rep for the Emmy-winning actress told People Thursday (August 11th), "Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition and on full life support.

"She is not expected to survive."

The statement continued, "It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she's being kept on life support to determine if any are viable."

Heche never regained consciousness after crashing into a Los Angeles home in a firey wreck that took place last Friday (August 5th).

The Euphoria star told Variety that the scar that runs alongside the left side of his scalp resulted from a fall into a construction pit on Friday the 13th, 2013. He explained, "I woke up 12 hours later at the bottom. I was trapped." Cloud says he eventually climbed out, despite his cracked skull and broken fingers. His mother took him to the children's hospital where they scewed a metal plate into his skull and "sealed him back up, and that was that."

STEVE MARTIN MAY BE NEARING RETIREMENT: Only Murders In The Building may be Steve Martin's last acting job. JON HAMM JOINS 'THE MORNING SHOW': Jon Hamm is joining The Morning Show. Apple TV+ announced Wednesday (Aug. 10th) that the Mad Men star will play Paul Marks, "a corporate titan" in the drama's forthcoming third season, which will begin filming later this month.

ALEC BALDWIN JOINS SPY THRILLER: Alec Baldwin has booked his next movie gig. Deadline announced Wednesday (August 10th) that the actor joins Olga Kurylenko for the spy action thriller Chief of Station. In the film, Baldwin plays a former CIA Station Chief who is forced back into the espionage world after learning that the death of his wife was not an accident.

On Tuesday (August 9th), The Hollywood Reporter published an exposé on the accusations against Fred Savage from the set of The Wonder Years reboot. A group of unnamed women came forward to detail the inappropriate conduct allegations against him, which include verbal harassment, alleged assault, and "manipulative and erratic" behavior.

Several crewmembers recalled a "strangeness" surrounding Savage's relationship with a much younger woman who worked on the crew. This woman declined to be interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, but the others say she moved into Savage's Atlanta home during filming. They also say he bought her gifts, discussed the future with her, and was "extremely controlling of her daily behaviors."

Another woman in her early 30s said Savage approached her with "just like, dead eyes" at a bar where the crew was partying one night and pushed her against a bathroom wall, despite her objections. "He put his mouth on mine very forcefully. He went for the top of my pants. I brushed him away. Then he put his mouth on mine again, grabbed my hand and pulled it on his groin area. I was pulling back. He stopped very angrily. I shoulder checked him so I could get out," she said.

"I was honestly scared of him for the first time," she added, sharing that he later apologized to her for being "a huge a**h***."

Savage responded to these allegations in a statement that read: "Since I was 6 years old, I have worked on hundreds of sets with thousands of people, and have always strived to contribute to an inclusive, safe and supportive work environment. It is devastating to learn that there are co-workers who feel I have fallen short of these goals."

He continued, "While there are some incidents being reported that absolutely did not and could not have happened, any one person who feels hurt or offended by my actions is one person too many. I will work to address and change any behavior that has negatively affected anyone, as nothing in this world is more important to me than being a supportive co-worker, friend, husband, father and person."

Richard Glass, the owner of Glass Hair Design in Venice, California, told The Los Angeles Times Monday (August 8th) that Anne Heche visited his salon shortly before she crashed her car into a Mar Vista home. Glass said that she wasn't "speaking in cursive" during her visit—meaning she didn't seem intoxicated at the time.

The salon owner described Heche as "very pleasant," and shared that she expressed interest in a blue wig. When he let her know that particular wig wasn't available, she said she'd take a red one instead.

Glass didn't register who Heche was until he went to ring her up. After recognizing her, the pair took a number of selfies together. Glass posted one to Instagram on Friday (August 5th), the day the accident took place.

In the interview, Bean also referenced a scene he filmed in Snowpiercer with Lena Hall. When the interviewer suggested that intimacy coordinators were a response to the #MeToo movement, Bean responded, "I suppose it depends on the actress. This one Hall had a musical cabaret background, so she was up for anything."

Hall addressed the comments with a lengthy Twitter thread. "Just because I am in theater (not cabaret, but I do perform them every once in a while) does not mean that I am up for anything." However, she also shared that she had a good experience with Bean. "Sean is an awesome actor and made me feel not only comfortable but also like I had a true acting partner in those bizarre scenes. It was us against the world and we were gonna tell that story," she wrote.

The Becks actress added, "I do feel that intimacy coordinators are a welcome addition to the set and think they could also help with the trauma experienced in other scenes. Sometimes you need em sometimes you don't but every single person and scene and experience is different."

On Monday (August 8th), That ‘70s Show actor Ashton Kutcher posted to Twitter after a sneak-peek clip was released of his appearance on National Geographic's Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge. KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN AND TRAVIS BARKER FLY COMMERCIAL FOLLOWING CRITICISM OF KYLIE JENNER'S PRIVATE JET USAGE: According to In Touch Weekly, Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian were spotted flying commercial recently with Kardashian's daughter Penelope Disick and her niece North West. This comes after her sister, Kylie Jenner, was called a "climate criminal" for taking a 17-minute flight on her private jet. The couple flew from Los Angeles to Spokane, Washington, on Alaska Airlines.

KENAN THOMPSON WILL HOST THE 2022 EMMY AWARDS: Deadline reports that Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson has been chosen to host this year's Emmy Awards on September 12th. ‘LAW & ORDER: SVU' FILMING EPISODE THAT MIRRORS JOHNNY DEPP-AMBER HEARD TRIAL: Entertainment Tonight Canada reports that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is planning to air an episode that tackles Johnny Depp's defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Photos taken while filming an upcoming episode in New York City show Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) exiting a courthouse with a celebrity, played by Julia Goldani Telles. A crowd surrounds them as they walk out, holding signs that show support for "Austin" and "Kelsey," mirroring the scene outside the courthouse during Depp v. Heard.

SECOND VIOLENT INCIDENT OCCURS NEAR THE SET OF ‘JUSTIFIED' SEQUEL: According to The Hollywood Reporter, an "incendiary device" was thrown towards the set of FX's Justified: City Primeval in Chicago's South Loop area Monday night (August 8th). The device didn't explode, and no one was hurt. This comes just three weeks after two vehicles containing people shooting at one another crashed through a barricade on the set of the show on the West Side.

Singer-songwriter and actress Olivia Newton-John passed away on Monday (August 8th), after a decades-long battle with breast cancer. Her husband, John Easterling, shared the news via her official Instagram page.

"Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time," he wrote.

Easterling continued, "Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the @onjfoundation."

In 1992, Newton-John first announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and in 2017, the Grease actress shared that it had spread to her sacrum. She often referred to herself as a "cancer thriver" and has been a longtime advocate for cancer awareness and research.

Newton-John began her career touring with Pat Farrar as one half of Pat & Olivia, before producing a few solo albums in the early 1970s. She received her first Grammy nomination for the title track on her 1973 album, Let Me Be There. Newton-John was nominated for 12 Grammys throughout the course of her career, and she is a four-time Grammy winner.

In 1978, she starred in Grease alongside John Travolta, and her other acting credits include Xanadu, Two of a Kind, Glee, A Few Best Men, and The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee.

Travolta shared his love for Newton-John on Instagram Monday (August 8th). "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!" he wrote.

Many other stars took to social media to honor Newton-John as well—including Jane Lynch, Lea Salonga, Gabrielle Union, and George Takei.
