Smashing Pumpkins Roll Out 26-Date Summer Tour

Smashing Pumpkins have just announced its 26-date "The World Is A Vampire" tour dates. Joining the band at assorted dates are Stone Temple Pilots, Interpol, and Rival Sons. General on-sales for the shows start on Friday, March 31st at 10 a.m. local.

Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan said ninth tour announcement, "I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxie And The Banshees and the Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong. That's what 'The World Is A Vampire' is about. Bringing back that sense of community. If you don't fit in, you belong here. It's about having a shared experience and respecting others, but ultimately having fun. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party."

Smashing Pumpkins will release Act 3 -- the third volume in its Atum trilogy -- on May 5th, with Blabbermouth reporting, "Act 3 will come with a special edition boxset featuring all 33 album tracks plus 10 additional previously unreleased songs." The "three-act rock opera" is part of the trilogy that follows 1995's Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness and 2000's Machina/Machines Of God.

Billy Corgan explained that the last thing he ever wanted was for Smashing Pumpkins to reunite only to be viewed as a nostalgia act: "To go back under the Smashing Pumpkins name engendered a lot of people expecting us to be nothing more than a reunion band, playing its greatest hits, and with a fan base not particularly keen to listen to the new music. What I try to tell people that get caught up in the reunion kind of concepts -- like where are the original members and stuff like this -- the band was founded on an idea that it must be progressive, and it must always be moving forward."

'The Monkees' Original TV Series Headed Back To TV

Original episodes of The Monkees will begin airing on AXS TV on April 7th as part of the channel's "Retro Night" block, according to Mortystv.com. All 58 episodes of the '60s classic will run in HD on Friday nights at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Sole-surviving band member Micky Dolenz said in a statement announcing the show's latest cable run: "The Monkees sitcom was truly ahead of its time and paved the way for countless series and bands throughout the decades and still is. I am so pleased that AXS TV is featuring it in their 'Retro Night' lineup. I hope that it will continue to inspire and entertain new generations of viewers for years to come."

Micky Dolenz told us that it was crucial that The Monkees TV show never portrayed the group as the hit act they were in real life: "One of the important, I think, elements of The Monkees, the decision the producers made, which I think was very wise; on the television show the Monkees were never successful. We were always struggling for success. That's what endeared it (to) so many people, so many kids around the world that were in their garages and basements, playing and singing and trying to be a band and trying to make it. And that's what The Monkees was about."

Elvis Costello & Nick Lowe Teaming Up For Joint Summer Tour

Elvis Costello & The Imposters have just booked a 23-city summer tour with Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets. The tour, which will also feature an opening set by the Imposters' supplemental guitarist -- and longtime Bob Dylan band member -- Charlie Sexton, kicks off on June 7th at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre and winds down on July 14th in Philadelphia at The Met Philadelphia.

Not too long ago, Elvis Costello told us how he goes about creating his nightly setlists: "We're playing just everything I feel like playing. There's a pretty broad scope to things -- some nights we play a lot of very well-known songs, some nights we don't play any, because that's the mood that I'm in, and I feel that's what we need to do."

We asked Nick Lowe -- a man often regarded as a "songwriter's songwriter" -- if when he's stumbled upon a melody, it stays with him until it can be crafted into a song: "That is pretty much how it is, yes. Occasionally I'll regret not having a little Dictaphone, or something I could've hummed something into -- because it will not come back, and I know that something's been good. But in general, if you get a germ of an idea, it will come back."

Flashback: The Beatles Record 'With A Little Help From My Friends'

It was 56 years ago today (March 29th, 1967) that the Beatles recorded "With A Little Help From My Friends." The song, written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney specifically for Ringo Starr to sing, was originally called "Bad Finger Boogie" and was one of the standout tracks on their Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

In author Hunter Davies' 1968 The Beatles' Authorized Biography, readers were allowed a sneak peak into how Lennon and McCartney worked, as he chronicled them coming up with lyrics for the song's verses and taking suggestions from anyone who happened to be around -- even rejecting an idea from Lennon's first wife Cynthia.

The song's basic track included McCartney on piano, Lennon on cowbell, George Harrison on lead guitar, and producer George Martin on Hammond organ. It took ten takes for the song to be completed, after which Ringo recorded his lead vocal. "With A Little Help From My Friends" has gone on to become one of Ringo Starr's signature tunes.

Ringo has always been grateful to Lennon & McCartney for taking time out to compose appropriate material for him to sing for the Beatles: "They were all written for me. The earlier records -- I picked 'Act Naturally' and the Carl Perkins songs like 'Matchbox' -- I picked those and said, 'I wanna do this,' and then they started writing for me specially."

Paul McCartney recalled that having a Ringo Starr vocal on a Beatles album was done for the love of his fans: "We always wanted to include him in it, because, see, with the Beatles, we all had our little group of fans. And so we always thought it was a good idea to try and include at least one song from Ringo for his fans. We did have to sort of encourage him and say 'Come on, man, y'know. . .' And he got into it after a while. He was always very disparaging about his own singing, But, y'know, we'd write something like, 'With A little Help From My Friends,' and he'd. . . it's only Ringo that can sing that."

Ringo's former producer Mark Hudson recalled that Ringo often spoke of how John Lennon used to help him record his vocals during Beatles recording sessions: "When Ringo used to sing vocals sometimes he says he was really insecure and that John would come out with this energy like 'C'mon Ring!' and his arms were flailing and he would be in his face, to make him hit notes and have energy."

"With A Little Help From My Friends" has closed every concert since Ringo returned to the road in 1989 with his All Starr Band.

Eric Clapton Set For Fall U.S. Mini-Tour

Eric Clapton has announced a fall U.S. mini-tour, with five arena dates booked for September. The trek will take in stops in Pittsburgh, Toronto, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and Denver. Ticket presales begin today (March 28th) at 10 a.m. local time with the public onsale starting March 31st at 10 a.m. local time. Jimmy Vaughn will serve as the opening act for all the shows.

Clapton will be backed on the upcoming dates by longtime bandmates guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, keyboardists Paul Carrack and Chris Stainton, bassist Nathan East, drummer Sonny Emory, with Sharon White and Katie Kissoon on backing vocals.

Nathan East has recorded and toured with Clapton off and on since his 1986 August album. He reflected on the qualities that make his old pal such a unique artist: "Eric is just a one-of-a-kind. There's Eric and then there's every other musician (laughs). Everything he touches seems to turn to gold, y'know? He has a beautiful voice and I've never met anyone who plays with such passion. Music is such an expression of passion and all the things that have happened to you and whatever -- and Lord knows he's been through a lot in his life -- but the way it flows through him musically is like something I've never ever seen."

Eric Clapton told us that the adulation he's received for his guitar playing throughout the years has also been embarrassing for him at times: "In terms of my guitar playing, yeah, I just thought it was all blown out of proportion. Y'know, I never saw myself as being that much better than anybody, really. I mean, I just saw myself as being another guitar player who knew a little bit about, y'know, the history of it all. I didn't ever really see myself as being particularly gifted, so it was very difficult to absorb all that kind of early adulation."

Eric Clapton will next perform on April 15th, 18th, 19th, 21st, and 22nd at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan.

JUST ANNOUNCED: Eric Clapton North American tour dates (subject to change):

September 8 - Pittsburgh, PA - PPG Paints Arena
September 10 - Toronto, ON - Scotiabank Arena
September 12 - St. Louis, MO - Enterprise Center
September 14 - Minneapolis, MN - Xcel Energy Center
September 16 - Denver, CO - Ball Arena

U2 Back At Number One With 'Songs Of Surrender'

U2 is back at Number One with the release of its latest album, Songs Of Surrender. The album sits on top of Billboard's Album, Rock, Alternative, and Vinyl charts and peaked at Number Five on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Across the pond, Songs Of Surrender has topped the charts in Ireland, Italy, Germany, Holland, and Belgium, as well as hitting Number One on iTunes in 35 countries around the world.

The 40-track Songs Of Surrender album was inspired by Bono's best-selling autobiography, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story. We asked bassist Adam Clayton about how his bandmate's memoir inspired and ultimately changed him: "I knew a lot about what he was doing politically but I didn't really, really know what it took. That's a guy who didn't have to get up and go to work every day like that and I wanna be in a band with people that not only are great songwriters, they're great artists -- but they're great humanitarians and they're great people. Because I need to be inspired and I need to be led by that same kind of thinking. I believe in music as a higher art and you can change the world with a guitar -- and that's what I signed up for."

AJ McLean And His Wife Separate After 11 Years Of Marriage

AJ McLean and his wife Rochelle McLean are taking some time apart after 11 years of marriage.

The estranged couple told US Weekly in a statement Monday (March 27th), "Marriage is hard, but worth it. We have mutually decided to separate temporarily to work on ourselves, and on our marriage with the hope of building a stronger future."

The Backstreet Boy and his wife added, "The plan is to come together and continue to nurture our love for one another, and our family. We ask for respect and privacy at this time. Separation is hard enough without the commentary, please be kind and remember there are children involved."

The couple share two daughters, Elliott, born in 2012, and Lyric, born in 2017.

Billy Joel Jams With ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons At MSG

Billy Joel welcomed ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons onstage this past Sunday night (March 26th) during his monthly gig at New York's Madison Square Garden. Gibbons brought some down home Texas blues to the "Big Apple" tearing through both ZZ Top's standards "La Grange" and "Tush" -- with Billy's guitarist Mike DelGuidice taking the lead on the latter classic originally sing by the late, great Dusty Hill.

Over the years, Billy Joel has welcomed many music legends onstage with him during his MSG residency -- including Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Sting, John Fogerty, Peter Frampton, John Mellencamp, Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, Jon Bon Jovi, Tony Bennett, Richie Sambora, Foreigner's Lou Gramm & Mick Jones, AC/DC's Brian Johnson, Chic Corea, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, John Mayer, the Rascals' Felix Cavaliere, and violinist Itzhak Perlman, among others.

Billy Joel said that there's an element of absurdity in performing for tens of thousands of people as a way to make your living: "It's my job, that's what I do. When I go home, I mean, I take that hat off. Hey -- it helps to get in a restaurant; I'll give you that. Y'know, I can always get a table. I think it's funny. I haven't lost sight of the fact that it is, kinda, really silly. It's a silly job. It's the best job I've ever had."

Billy Joel will next perform with Stevie Nicks on April 8th in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium.

Led Zeppelin's 'Houses Of The Holy' Turns 50!!!

It was 50 years ago today (March 28th, 1973) that Led Zeppelin's fifth album, the beloved Houses Of The Holy, was released in North America. The collection went on to hit Number One the following May 12th, and held down the top spot for two weeks. In all, the album stayed in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart for 14 weeks.

Houses Of The Holy -- which also topped the charts in England, Canada, and Australia -- was nominated for the Best Recording Package Grammy award. To date, Houses Of The Holy has sold over 11 million units in North America alone.

The eight-track album includes many of Zeppelin's best loved tunes: "The Song Remains The Same," "The Rain Song," "Over The Hills And Far Away," "The Crunge," "Dancing Days," "D'yer Mak'er," "No Quarter," and "The Ocean."

We caught up with Jimmy Page, who produced Houses Of The Holy -- as well as all the Zeppelin albums -- and asked him about the sessions the band held at Mick Jagger's English country estate, Stargroves. Seeing as how Zeppelin would be following the Who into the residence after they wrapped their own sessions -- we asked him if he asked either producer Glyn Johns and/or Pete Townshend about some of the prime spots to record in at Jagger's place: "I did actually go over to check out Stargroves and the Who were there -- I don't know if they were recording or rehearsing or what, to be honest with you. I just remember walking in and I'd hate that if someone walked in on my session. I sort of was invited into the house and they were sort of playing, and just remember seeing Pete Townshend on this orange Gretsch. But it was a trip! Y'know, it was Mick Jagger's country home and there were certain areas of the upstairs wing -- where the bedroom was -- it was out of bounds (laughs)."

Page explained his thought process behind layering the guitars on "The Rain Song": "On '(The) Rain Song' there's a whole sort of sonic perspective that was intended for the guitars on that; and to be frank, it's only the same sort of the sonic perspective that I would have for that particular track that I would have to another one -- although it would change, it would mutate."

Jimmy Page admitted there was a concerted effort to highlight Zeppelin's melodic capabilities on House Of The Holy: "I was definitely thinking in that mode -- from what you're saying. I mean, there's definitely an intent to come up with melody, whether it's in the form of a riff-induced thing, like 'Whole Lotta Love' -- I mean, that is like a voodoo melody. And when you come to something like, '(The) Rain Song,' that's an intentional sort of piece, a composed piece with melody. 'Dancing Days,' that really kicks its way into life, as, like -- it's a guitar riff with the bass and the drums sort of playing to it. And then Robert (Plant's) singing over it."

We asked Jimmy Page if there's footage of Led Zeppelin recording House Of The Holy -- or any of their albums for that matter: "No, no there isn't. Because it was a very sort of private world, it was ruthlessly efficient in its delivery of the music and there was no time for waiting to see whether somebody'd put a magazine in his camera and all of that. I mean, it was like pulling teeth just having a photographer in there on a couple of occasions. They were just interfering with the flow of what the music was about."

On October 28th, 2014, Led Zeppelin released a new, remastered edition of Houses Of The Holy, which features previously unreleased audio content in a variety of packages -- including a limited edition "Super Deluxe" box set.

Madonna To Donate Proceeds From Nashville Tour Date To Trans Rights Organizations

Madonna plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from her newly added Tennessee tour date to trans rights organizations.

The Material Girl announced Monday (March 27th) that she will add a stop on The Celebration Tour in Nashville on December 22nd.

In regard to the over 100 anti-LGBTQ+ bills currently before state legislatures, Madonna wrote on Instagram, "The oppression of the LGBTQ+ is not only unacceptable and inhumane; it's creating an unsafe environment; it makes America a dangerous place for our most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color. Also, these so-called laws to protect our children are unfounded and pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows not to f*** with a drag queen. Bob and I will see you from the stage in Nashville where we will celebrate the beauty that is the queer community."

In addition to Nashville, the "Like A Virgin" singer has added seven new dates to The Celebration Tour, adding shows in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Palm Springs, and Sacramento, along with a second show in Phoenix and a third show in San Francisco and Las Vegas. All new dates will take place between December 2023 and January 2024.

Quickies: Taylor Swift + Jisoo!

TAYLOR SWIFT HAS SEVEN ALBUMS IN THE TOP 40: Taylor Swift has become the first living artist to chart seven albums in the top 40 on the Billboard 200 simultaneously. Evermore, Reputation, Red (Taylor's Version), 1989, folklore, Lover, and Midnights are all ranked at #31 or higher with her latest release at #3.

JISOO DROPS TRAQCKLIST FOR 'ME': Jisoo revealed the tracklist for her forthcoming solo effort, Me, ahead of its Friday release). On Monday (March 27th), the BLACKPINK singer tweeted that her first single album will include the two tracks "Flower" and "All Eyes On Me."

Tom Petty's Mudcrutch Guitarist Tom Leadon Dead At 70

Tom Leadon, the guitarist in Tom Petty's pre-Heartbreakers band Mudcrutch died on March 22nd at age 70. Leadon's death was announced on Facebook by his brother Mark Leadon, who posted: "It is with great sadness, but profound love and gratitude for his life, that the family of Tom Leadon announce his passing on March 22, 2023, peacefully of natural causes." Tom Leadon's older brother was Eagles co-founder Bernie Leadon.

Mudcrutch bandmate Mike Campbell tweeted: "Tom Leadon was my deepest guitar soul brother, we spent countless hours playing acoustic guitars and teaching each other things. A kinder soul never walked the earth. I will always miss his spirit and generosity. Sleep peacefully, my old friend."

The 2008 Mudcrutch album peaked on the Billboard 200 at Number Eight. A four-track live single, called Extended Play Live, was released later that year, but did not chart. A second studio set, titled, 2, was issued in 2016.

The reunited version of Mudcrutch featured Petty on bass, Heartbreakers' keyboardist Benmont Tench and guitarist Mike Campbell, with co-founders Randall Marsh on drums, and Leadon on guitar.

Prior to becoming Mudcrutch's keyboardist back in the early-'70s, Benmont Tench was a major fan of the band -- and was particularly impressed by its original lineup, which included short-lived frontman Jim Lenahan. He recalled how Mudcrutch finally reunited: "I got a call from Mike that Tom wanted to do this and I just really hoped that I'd be included. To my mind, as good as the later lineups of Mudcrutch were -- they were really good -- the best lineup was the four-piece, with Tom Leadon and Mike Campbell on guitar and Petty on bass and Randall Marsh on drums. I joined later after 'Len' quit, and other than sitting in with them a few times, I didn't get to play with 'Len,' and I thought that that was the most special sound."

Metallica Bassist Finally Gets A Chance To Sing

After 20 years in the band, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo revealed that he's finally supplied backing vocals on the band's upcoming album, 72 Seasons, which drops on April 14th.

Trujillo chatted with the band's own fan magazine, So What!, and shed light on his admitted lack of vocal chops, explaining, "When I joined Metallica, I'd never sung in my whole life, so the fact that I can now support a backup vocal is pretty cool. For the first time in my life, I get to sing on a Metallica record and support James (Hetfield). I'm very proud of that. . . It's the first time that James and (co-producer) Greg (Fidelman) had probably ever really trusted me with that position on a recording of this stature."

Trujillo who celebrated his 20th anniversary with the band this past February 24th, went on to say, "I was surprised when I got the call from Greg because I was coming up to play a little bass, but then he said, 'I'm going to have you sing on a couple things, too.' And I was, like, 'Really?' I got a little nervous. At the same time, I was very motivated. . . The part lends itself to my personality, to my voice, and it sits and slots in really well with the moment and bass breakdown. So it's cool that it's this breakdown that James and I were able to jam on and create, and then I get to sing on it too."

Robert Trujillo told us not long ago that the band still enjoys the songwriting process after all these years: "When we strap our guitars on and we get on the practice floor, we start writing, I mean, it's fun. And that's the thing that keeps, I think, this band so relevant, is that we actually really enjoy coming up with ideas. And the work ethic is super, super strong and that's what takes us longer than other bands, y'know, because we're sitting there and, y'know, sometimes we're really analyzing things."

Adele Extends Las Vegas Residency Through November

Adele has extended her Las Vegas residency through November.

The "Hello" singer announced Sunday (March 26th) that she added 34 additional dates to her stay at The Colosseum at Caesar's Palace.

Harry Styles Spotted Making Out With Emily Ratajkowski

Harry Styles was spotted making out with Emily Ratajkowski in Tokyo Saturday (March 25th) night.

The "Watermelon Sugar" singer has been crushing on the model for years, having told Telehit in 2014 that Ratajkowski was his celebrity crush.

Kelly Clarkson To Release New Album 'Soon'

Kelly Clarkson is working on a new album.

The talk show host said in an Instagram video Sunday (March 26th), "It is officially time to tell you that I've been working on this project for close to three years now and I wasn't sure I was going to release it, but I am."

Clarkson, who got divorced from Brandon Blackstock last year added, "This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship. A whole relationship shouldn't be just brought down to one thing. So there's the good, the bad and the ugly kind of thing going on in it."

According to the American Idol winner, the album will arrive "soon" and some tracks from the album will be available "even sooner."

Pete Townshend Sheds Light On First Solo Single In Nearly 30 Years

Pete Townshend and wife Rachel Fuller discussed the making of the new single, "Can't Outrun The Truth" -- Townshend's first solo single in nearly 30 years. All proceeds from the song, which was written by Fuller, will benefit the Who's patron charity, the Teen Cancer Trust.

In a new YouTube short featuring the couple, titled, "Table Talking With The Townshends," Townshend shed light on recording the track, which featured him stretching slightly out of his comfort zone by playing both lap steel guitar and violin: "So, it was a fairly straightforward job for me. I just had to make sure the sound was okay. The bit that followed, which was a bit of a shock, was when you wanted me to then sing the song and I think there were a whole bunch of reasons why -- but basically because I was there."

Townshend went on to explain why the new single benefiting the Teen Cancer Trust will help make up for a disastrous couple of years when fundraising took a hit across the board: "Because of the charity angle and because one of the things about Teen Cancer Trust, which is this thing that Roger and I have been passionately involved in for 25, 26 years, the pandemic years were terrible for charities. Y'know, there were no concerts, there were no events. And the Teen Cancer Trust had been created in order to take the money from a series of concerts at the (Royal) Albert Hall every year -- and various other things -- to stimulate and create spin and donations and that had dropped."

Queen + Adam Lambert Bringing 'Rhapsody Tour' To North America

Queen + Adam Lambert have rolled out the initial dates to their 2023 "Rhapsody Tour." The trek kicks off on October 4th at Baltimore's CFG Bank Arena and, as of now, winds down on November 11th in L.A. at BMO Stadium.

Guitarist Brian May told Rolling Stone, "This tour has lots of new bells and lots of new whistles. We've evolved as performers, I think. We've stepped up our game. We have better chemistry than ever. We understand each other better than ever, and we feel more free in the way that we interpret stuff. We're very happy with it. There's lots of new production and stuff we want to excite you with."

As with their European tour last year, the band hopes to pepper the set with fan favorites and deep cuts, with frontman Adam Lambert admitting, "I always like doing 'Dragon Attack.' That's one of my favorites. There's a lot of time between now and when the tour starts in October to come up with new ideas. I think we'll have many."

Adam Lambert admitted that he stepped into pretty big shoes when he agreed to take the stage fronting Queen -- a band that had perhaps the most legendary and charismatic frontman with the late-Freddie Mercury: "At first it was a little daunting, when we started our first incarnation of this. I was definitely. . . I was apprehensive. He's a big idol for me, and I thought to myself, y'know, ‘I hope that the fans dig this,' y'know? ‘Cause there was a possibility that they wouldn't. And it felt really good, the reception was warm, the press reaction to it the first time was very warm. And it's such a treat to get on stage and pay my respects and pay tribute to one of my favorite singers ever -- and to sing some of the greatest music ever written."

Prior to hitting the road last time around, Brian May told us that he, Roger Taylor, and Adam Lambert all look closely at the Queen songbook and figure out what key elements they need for a perfect show: "We're up for anything, really. Yeah, and, we'll look at the whole catalogue and see what we can pull off, I think. Y'know, what needs to happen is we need to be happy amongst ourselves. We need to be comfortable. Adam needs to be comfortable -- challenged, but comfortable. And yeah, I think we'll take a real careful look at all those albums and see what we can cherry pick and, y'know, bring to a new place."

Taylor Swift Called Lana Del Rey 'The Best That We Have' During Eras Tour Stop

Taylor Swift praised Lana Del Rey during her Friday (March 24h) performance in Las Vegas.

According to Billboard, The "Lavender Haze" singer called Del Rey "the best that we have" before adding, "She knows I'm obsessed with her, and she was kind enough to make a song with me on Midnights called ‘Snow on the Beach' because she's a generous king. She did that for me, and I'll never forget how nice she's been to me. It's so cool when you have favorite artists and they turn out to be so nice to you. I wanted to just do some promo for her, and also, in honor of this brilliant album that she just put out, I wanted to play ‘Snow on the Beach.'"

The following night, Swift invited Marcus Mumford to join her for the live debut of the Evermore track, "Cowboy Like Me."

Neil Young Slams Ticketmaster Fees

In light of the recent snafus regarding ticket sales for both the Cure and Bruce Springsteen -- in addition to exorbitant fees for even the worst seats in the house -- Neil Young posted a message to fans on his Neil Young Archive page explaining his thoughts on a broken concert ticketing system.

Young wrote: "TICKETMASTER FEES at 30%. It's over. The old days are gone. I get letters blaming me for $3,000.00 tickets for a benefit I am doing. That money does not go to me or the benefit. Artists have to worry about ripped off fans blaming them for Ticketmaster add-ons and scalpers."

During a chat with the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum, Neil Young spoke about a longing for music to take a more organic path going forward: "I really pray for a renaissance of real homemade music, where people actually play together and play off each other. That, to me, is what music's all about. And as we move more and more into the digital age of Pro Tools and putting things on a grid and organizing things and sampling and everything. . . I'm not puttin' it down, but I am sayin' that when they actually play together, that's a whole time that has to be preserved."

Taylor Hawkins Saluted By 100 Drummers In Belgium

In commemoration of the one-year anniversary of Taylor Hawkins' death on March 25th, the Belgian band Black Box Revelation enlisted 100 drummers to film a collaborative live performance of the Foo Fighters classic "My Hero" in tribute to Hawkins. Loudwire reported the event took place at the country's Sportplaeis Antwerp, which was the last venue that Hawkins performed at with the Foos in Belgium.

Black Box Revelation said in a statement, "Taylor Hawkins was the best drummer of our times. Honoring him with this tribute was an experience we will never forget."

Participating drummer Gino Kesteloot added: "It's the first time I played together with 100 other drummers. It sounded great, I even got goosebumps all over my body! Wonderful to honor our hero this way."

Taylor Hawkins told us that the beauty of like-minded musicians connecting is that a music scene can spring up anywhere: "You can have a scene anywhere you want, period. Des Moines, Iowa, maybe they have a bitchin' punk rock scene that we don't even know about because there's a couple of kids there who are turning all their friends onto something, and next thing you know, they're taking over the rec center every Saturday. And that's how it started with (Foo Fighters bassist) Nate (Mendel) and how it started with all the other guys in the band."
