Taylor Swift Wins Big At The 2022 American Music Awards

Dove Cameron won the award for New Artist of the Year while Dan + Shay walked away with the nod for Favorite Country Duo or Group.

The nod was presented by R&B singer Kelly Rowland, who gathered audience members who chose to boo following Breezy's win. Rowland honored Chris and thanked him for his contributions to R&B music.

Dove Cameron acceots Artist of the year award

  • "Wow. Thank you so much. This is so meaningful to me. I want to start by saying that every award that I ever win will always first and foremost be dedicated to the queer community at large. You guys have carved out such a space for me to be myself and to write music about it, and I've never felt safer or more loved and more supported, and I hope I can give you some semblance of that same feeling in my music. On the heels of what happened in Colorado Springs, I want to remind everyone how important queer visibility is and how important our community is. And I want to direct your attention to organizations like Glad and the Trevor project. I want to remind you that you are made absolutely right and you are so loved and so held, and I want to thank you for supporting me. Thank you for holding the space. I'm holding it for you too. • "This short film was ten years in the making, and the only reason I got to write and direct the short film is because you the fans chose the song all too well. You chose it. No one at a record label chose it. You picked it. You said that is the song that matters to us, and it just so happens that it was the song that mattered the most to me. • "You know, in the past few years, I have released more music than I did in the entire decade preceding that, and I really feel like that's down to the fact that you, the fans, made it clear that you wanted to hear lots of music that I would make. You encouraged me. And so, I found that the more music I made and the more music I put out, the happier I was. The more I just kept that channel open and just kept creating, kept making things, and the more that happened, the more you guys were like, yeah, keep doing it. And the happier I was, so I have the fans to thank, essentially, for my happiness and -- cheers and applause -- And I love you more than I can say. I cannot express how unbelievable it is to me that I still get to do this and that you still care, so thank you underlined with 13 exclamation points. I don't know what to say. I love you. • "I want to thank my kids and the mothers of my kids for keeping my kids together. Very important. And then of course there's the people along the way. Friends who have supported. Bruce, my manager, who is absolutely a dream manager. Lisa, who is actually more of the adult in the room because she has to deal with me. I'm the kid. I'm the child. But what I want to say and take this time to do is to talk to the young superstars. God has given you a light. That light is special. That light is only given to a few. When you hear the word hip, it means today. When you hear the word inspiring, it means forever. If you get a chance to have that light on you, understand what god has in store. He is not trying to tell you that your car looks great, your clothes look great. He's trying -- he/she, mother, God is trying to tell you that you are chosen to inspire. Take this opportunity. That light is on you. Inspire. God bless you all. Thank you very much. Cheers and applause" 1:49 OC...you very much Cheers and applause

Adele's residency was originally set to begin in January but was postponed for nearly a year.

Attorneys General Threaten To Investigate Ticketmaster Over 'Eras' Ticketing Sales

Ticketmaster may have more than a bunch of angry Swifties to deal with following the trouble with ticket sales for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

Sources told The New York Times Friday (November 18th) the Justice Department has opened an antitrust investigation into the owner of Ticketmaster. The investigation is focused on whether Live Nation Entertainment has abused its power over thel ive music industry.

Additionally, Attorneys General in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Nevada have all announced on social media that they will be looking into the company to ensure that anti-trust and consumer protections laws are being upheld.

The "Antihero" singer, herself, is also upset with the company and issued a statement on her Instagram Stories that said, "It's really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse."

Elvis Costello Covers The Beatles, Stones, & Byrds On New Studio Set

Coming on Friday (November 25th) is Elvis Costello & The Imposters' surprise new studio set, The Boy Named If (Alive at Memphis Magnetic). The album is a companion to this year's The Boy Named If collection, which has just snagged a Grammy nom for Best Rock Album. The new set features Costello and the band tackling favorites by Paul McCartney & Wings, Nick Lowe, the Beatles, the Byrds, and the Rolling Stones, among others.

The set was recorded live-in-the-studio during tour rehearsals October 2021 and May 2022 at Memphis Magnetic and captures what Costello says are: "Some of our favorite songs while negotiating with any tricky angles in our new tunes."

Elvis Costello told us he was a Byrds die-hard from day one: "The band itself, the Byrds, were the band that I'd followed and like, a lot of people, I suppose you might say they were an American vocal group that answered the Beatles in some ways. And then they became, like, a psychedelic group, almost in a way -- the 5D album -- and by the time they got to the Sweetheart Of The Rodeo, that was quite a shock. But there was nothing tongue-in-cheek about it. It was clear that a song like 'Hickory Wind' was very sincere."

The tracklisting to The Boy Named If (Alive at Memphis Magnetic) is:

"Magnificent Hurt" (Costello)
"Truth Drug" (Nick Lowe)
"Penelope Halfpenny" (Costello)
"So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star" (McGuinn/Hillman)
"What If I Can't Give You Anything But Love?" (Costello)
"The Boy Named If" (Costello)
"Let Me Roll It" (Paul McCartney/Linda McCartney)
"Every Day I Write The Book" (Costello)
"Out Of Time" (Jagger/Richards)
"Here, There And Everywhere" (McCartney)
"Magnificent Hurt" - remix (Costello/chelmico)

Elvis Costello & The Imposters will next perform on December 2nd in Austin at ACL Live at The Moody Theater. Costello and friends will be salute his 1985 classic, King Of America.

35 Years Ago Today: Billy Idol Hits Number One With 'Mony Mony'

It was 35 years ago today (November 21st, 1987) that Billy Idol's cover of Tommy James & The Shondell's classic "Mony Mony" hit Number One on the Billboard Hot 100. Idol's version placed two spots higher than the 1968 original, topping the charts for a single week.

Billy Idol had originally recorded a studio version of "Mony Mony" for his 1981 solo debut, Don't Stop. The '87 live hit version of the tune was recorded on the road while promoting his Vital Idol album and marks Idol's sole chart-topper to date.

Amazingly, "Mony Mony" knocked another Tommy James remake out of the Number One spot, after teen sensation Tiffany brought 1967's "I Think We're Alone Now" to Number One for two weeks. Again, the '80s were better to the Shondells than the '60s, with the original version having stalled at Number Four.

When we caught up to Tommy James he explained that despite the constant changing trends in pop music, a great song is a great song. In fact, he says he was just as surprised as everyone when remakes of two of the Shondells' biggest hits ended up topping the charts back-to-back during the height of MTV. "I was sitting on an airplane as a matter of fact and I see 'Mony Mony' by Billy Idol and Tiffany with 'I Think We're Alone Now' hit the charts the same week -- and I couldn't believe it, they're like. . . they went together right up the charts and then finally they ended up fighting it out for Number One -- and both went Number One! I mean, y'know, it was a wild year." :

The Beatles' Apple Records Manager Ken Mansfield Dead At 85

Ken Mansfield, the former U.S. manager of the Beatles' Apple Records, died on November 17th at age 85. Mansfield, who promoted the "Fab Four" on Capitol prior to being among the first on the Apple team, had worked with such legends as the Beach Boys, Buck Owens, Glen Campbell, Judy Garland, and many others before joining the group's personal label.

Starting with "Hey Jude," Mansfield played a crucial role in promoting both the Beatles' music, as well as other Apple acts such as Mary Hopkin, James Taylor, Jackie Lomax, and Badfinger.

In 2018, Mansfield published his second memoir on his time with working with the Beatles, titled The Roof: The Beatles' Final Concert.

Mansfield left Apple for MGM when John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr appointed Allen Klein as the Beatles' manager in the spring of 1969 against Paul McCartney's wishes.

After his time with the Beatles, Mansfield worked in various capacities -- including record production -- for a number of artists, including Andy Williams, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Ray Stevens, Jimmy Buffett, Don Ho, the Everly Brothers, Nick Gilder, Paul Anka, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and David Cassidy, among many, many others. In 1992 while working as an exec at the BMG subsidiary Private Music, he was instrumental in signing Ringo Starr for his first new album in a decade, the 1992 comeback, Time Takes Time.

While discussing his mid-'60s promo days at Capitol Records, Mansfield told us that the Beatles were so massive that they not only blocked acts from other labels from hitting the top spots on the album and single charts -- but even artists from the Beatles' own label: "They were always mad. Think about it -- we had legitimate Number One records with other artists on our label; but they couldn't go to Number One (because of the Beatles' dominance), they could only go to Number Two. 'I had a Number One record' (or) 'I had a Number Two record' -- which one sounds. . . y'know, there's just that difference. So, we constantly had this problem. Y'know, it went further than just the airplay and the charts -- it also went with the pressing plants. Here, an artist has a record out, a Beatles record comes out, it just stopped our pressing plants. All we could do is press Beatle records."

Along with an eyewitness account of the Beatles performing live for the final time as a unit, in his memoir, The Roof, Mansfield gave a personal account of what made the early months of the group's Apple Records so unique and groundbreaking: "I wanted to encapsulate the beginning of Apple and in and odd way, phase out the ending without defining the ending of Apple. Apple ended, basically, kind of after the roof. Y'know, that was kind of the beginning of the end. I didn't want it to be a bunch of facts, and a bunch of statistics; I just wanted people to see that it was real people. It was just this special place and I wanted to encapsulate that time period, I'm not trying to talk about all the time before the Beatles' stuff and the different albums -- or anything. I just wanted to talk about Apple and then, the day of the roof was, like, the beginning of the end for me."

Ken Mansfield told us it was a testament to the Beatles that they ended up with such a loyal staff: "I felt so honored to be invited inside their world and privileged, that a bunch of us had agreed that we would never write about our time with the Beatles. It's not because the Beatles said, 'Lookit, you're gonna be inside, you're gonna see some stuff, you're gonna know some stuff, we wanna be free to do. . . So you're gonna have to agree not to write or talk about it.' It was just something, we felt so privileged, we had so much respect. I have to tell you man, they treated me so good and so kind."

Jack White Covers Nirvana Classic In Concert

Jack White covered Nirvana's 1993's "Heart Shaped Box" during his November 16th concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Ultimate-Guitar.com posted video clips of White performing the In Utero favorite while on the road promoting his recent companion albums, Fear Of The Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive.

"Heart Shaped Box" was the lead single from Nirvana's final studio album, In Utero. The song topped Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.

Although he has not spoken about specific artists in the past, Jack White has never been afraid to share his opinions, as when he commented on the state of rock music itself a few years back: "It's changed definitions over the years, y'know? Now it's sort of an energy drink, isn't it? So it's become an iconic sort of T-shirt at Target or something like that. I think that it's gonna be redefined again in the next 10 years. In more of the '60s and '70s, it was such a mystery and untouchable-ness to it. And now like in the age of sort of reality television, so many things are accessible that it's changing."

Jack White performs tonight (November 21st) in Christchurch, New Zealand at Christchurch Town Hall.

His next North American show is set for December 3rd at Fort Lauderdale's Audacy Beach Festival.

Ticketmaster Overwhelmed By 'Historically Unprecedented Demand' For Taylor Swift Tickets

Ticketmaster was so overwhelmed on Tuesday (November 15th), that the Capital One presale for Taylor Swift's Era's Tour has been moved to Wednesday (November 16th).

The company tweeted, "There has been historically unprecedented demand with millions showing up to by tickets for the TaylorSwiftTix Presale," and added, "To provide a smooth experience for cardholders and address the historic demand for tickets, Capital One Cardholder Presale has been rescheduled to Wednesday, 11/16 at 2pm local venue time for all shows."

The increased traffic caused " intermittent issues with the site" and manyfans were stuck in a queue that didn't move for several hours.

Tuesday's presale was even pushed back to from 10am to 3pm for several West Coast dates.

The array of problems had Swifties tweeting that Ticketmaster is a monopoly that should be shut down.

One user wrote, "the crazy thing is that while ticketmaster has a monopoly on the entertainment industry and can do whatever the f**k they want… taylor is one of few artists with enough power and money to actually make them change which is why this is so disappointing"

Dua Lipa's Attorneys Call Copyright Lawsuit 'Speculative' And 'Vague'

Attorneys for Dua Lipa are asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit claiming she stole "Levitating's" hook from a little-known reggae track.

According to Billboard, lawyers say the allegations are "speculative," "vague" and supported by little real evidence.

Earlier this year, Artikal Sound System filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Lipa, claiming that the 2020 Future Nostalgia track rips off their 2017 song "Live Your Life."

Mariah Carey Denied 'Queen Of Christmas' Trademark

Mariah Carey has been denied a trademark on "Queen of Christmas."

According to Stereogum, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has ruled against the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" singer's request following opposition from Elizabeth Chan.

Chan, who dropped an album called Queen of Christmas last year, was originally dubbed the "Queen of Christmas" by the New Yorker in 2018.

Carey was also denied the terms "Princess Christmas" and "QOC" by the patent office.
