Nikki Sixx Recalls Being Talked Into Playing 'The Stadium Tour'

With Motley Crue's 'Stadium Tour' now part of the history books, bassist Nikki Sixx recalled to Entertainment Tonight how he happy he is the band decided to sign for the gig. The massively successful North American run featured co-headliners Def Leppard along with Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

Blabbermouth transcribed Sixx's chat and reported him explaining his mindset prior to the tour: "We were friends, and we were fine and everything's good, We're just like, 'No, (a tour's) a lot of work.' When you see the show out there, you're gonna go, 'Wow.' I mean, it's years of work putting it together, and then they were like, 'No, not eight arenas, eight stadiums,' and I was like, 'Let me call Tommy (Lee).' I was like, 'Hey, dude, they're talking about us touring,' and he's like, 'No.' Because we wanted to stand by what we said (about retiring from the road), and then it was 16 (shows) and 36, which we just entered our 36th stadium, and there's, what, another 120 next year and the year after that, so, we're grateful we said yes."

Sixx went on to say, "We're having a blast. I mean, we're all having a blast, everyone's just having a good time. . . it's amazing to be 41 years together? I mean, sometimes it's just like, 'What?' Stepping into some sacred territory there."

Nikki Sixx told us Motley Crue's enduring popularity is based on their history and their reputation as a live act: "When the original band is back together, they're like, 'I know what that is. I know that it's potent. I know that this band -- more than most bands -- is completely over the top and we need to see it, because we never got to see it.' The people that did see it, it's like, 'You've got to go see this. It's the real deal.'''

Cardi B Files Paperwork To Garnish Tasha K's Bank Account For Over $3 Million Owed

Cardi B has filed paperwork in Georgia to seize property and assets owned by blogger Tasha K — who accused her of having Herpes and being an escort. As previously reported, Cardi B was awarded $4 million after a jury found Tasha K guilty of defaming the rapper with various posts and YouTube videos.

According to RadarOnline, Cardi has demanded that Chase Bank and its employees hold all of Tasha's property, money, wages and other assets, including property in safe deposit boxes or similar property. She also demanded that Chase Bank answers questions about the money that the blogger has at the institution.

Tasha K has reportedly pleaded with the federal judge who presided over the case to step in and put a stop to Cardi's demands. She argued that the appeal is pending and collections aren't allowed until a decision has been made.

Charlie Puth Opens Up About New Self-Titled Album

Charlie Puth will be dropping his self-titled album next month and has described it as "personal."

He told Billboard, "Maybe a cliché statement for an artist to sit on this white couch and be like, ‘Oh, this is my most personal work.' But it is for me because I've never had an entire body of work that was my personality with some melody attached to it."

Puth added, "I want people to be familiar with these songs, like they've heard them before, because they have heard them before."

As far as what's next on the agenda for Puth, he said, "Any song that I put out, I never think about, 'Oh, well I have to top this one.' I think about, 'How different of a song can I follow this up with?' I feel like I've always been, up to this point, the artist that you just hear on the radio or you listen to wherever you listen to music. No one's ever cared about my personal life so I'm exacerbating that. I'm taking the sand paper and I'm rubbing the wood laughs That's a weird analogy."

The album is set to arrive on October 7th.

Daryl Hall Rolls Out Fall Dates With Todd Rundgren

Daryl Hall has just added a primarily Midwest fall leg to his solo tour with old friend Todd Rundgren. The newly added shows in November and December will hit Brookville and Syracuse, New York; Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin; St. Louis, Missouri; and Evansville, Indiana.

Although Daryl Hall & John Oates have been recording together since 1972 and scored several hits during the "me" decade, it was the release of 1980's Voices and their subsequent '80s albums that made them household names. We asked Daryl Hall about how he accounts for the pair's incredible popularity throughout the '80s, resulting in the pair being named the most successful duo in rock history: "What happened was, we had been making in-roads into radio all through the '70s. And then, I don't know what happened. I think the world, sort of their ears -- whatever happened in 1980, y'know, to that decade. Somehow the masses became attuned to the kind of music that we were doing and made it easy for us to appeal to a lot of people. I think that MTV had a lot to do with it. We were on there all the time, we were basically, y'know, we were guest VJ's every other week, probably. It was just one of those things that you can never understand why music explodes in a certain way, but it worked for us."

Hall & Oates next perform on October 7th in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the Hard Rock Cafe.

UPDATED: Daryl Hall with Todd Rundgren tour dates (subject to change):

October 1 - Brookville, NY - Tilles Center - Krasnoff Theater

Dua Lipa Feels More 'In Control' On New Album

Dua Lipa feels like she has more control on her forthcoming album, which she previously revealed is 50 percent done.

She explained to Vogue Australia, "As I'm writing my new album, I feel even more liberated in a completely different way. And even more in control than I thought."

When asked what liberated means to her, Dua said, "Freedom, especially as a woman, means to be able to take things into your own hands, to have control over the things that you believe in. To really have a voice."

Back in March, Dua Lipa shared that she was halfway done working on the album.

It's unclear when the project will be released.

Jason Derulo Explains How His Lowest Moments Have Helped Him Persevere

Jason Derulo has opened up about how his lowest moments have helped him to persevere.

During an appearance on E!'s digital series DRIVE!, the pop star said that his self-improvement has been his "drive for a very long time."

He continued, "My downfalls and when I have low moments, those moments really drive me. At my lowest lows, it's like, 'Dang, I gotta really sink my teeth in and just go for gold.'"

However, Derulo said his 16-month-old son, Jason King Derulo, keeps him going these days.

Derulo said, "The newest thing is my son and wanting what's best for him and wanting him to have the best life that he could possibly have."

Journey Classic Set For Season Premiere Of 'The Goldbergs'

On Wednesday night (September 21st), Journey will celebrate the 50th anniversary of recording its classic 1983 ballad "Faithfully," which will be the featured track on the ABC sitcom, The Goldbergs.

Journey keyboardist and the song's writer Jonathan Cain said in a statement: "It's truly an honor for me and my bandmates to have 'Faithfully' featured in the season premiere of The Goldbergs. We're big fans of the show and hope our fans enjoy hearing one of our biggest hits in the episode. We're looking forward to watching the episode."

"Faithfully" was the second single released from Journey's 1983 Frontiers album. The track narrowly missed the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, peaking at Number 12. Jonathan Cain has gone on record as saying he dreamt the melody to the song before he wrote it.

Although current lead vocalist Arnel Pineda is a dead ringer vocally for former frontman Steve Perry, many Journey fans long for a reunion between Perry and core members Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain. Cain was asked if the band ever thought to asking Perry to rejoin the band, rather than finding the perfect sound-alike vocalist: "No, because he really sealed the deal back in '98 and said, 'Don't expect anything from me, y'know, we're done. You and I are done.' So, I know that he keeps his word and I would not make that call because I know that he's quite happy with the life he has. And it's pretty rigorous out here. What we do is very rigorous, and he doesn't need it. Why does he need it, you know? His legacy is already there."

The Goldbergs, featuring "Faithfully" airs on Wednesday, September 21st at 8:30 PM on ABC.

Mariah Carey Plans To Release Her 1990s Alternative Rock Album

Mariah Carey has plans to release the alternative rock album titled Someone's Ugly Daughter that she apparently secretly recorded in 1995 under the stage name Chick.

During an interview on Rolling Stone's Rolling Stone Now podcast, Mariah said, "The quest for that version is going great. We actually have it. This was my outlet, and nobody knew about it. Most people, I'd rather they don't even know about it until we decide exactly what happens from that quest of finding those vocals."

She continued, "I think this unearthed version will become something that, yes, we should hear. But also, I'm working on a version of something where there'll be another artist working on this with me as well … Possibly something built around the album. I'm just full of surprises."

The album was recorded while Mariah was making her LP, Daydream.

MARIAH CAREY'S 'HONEY: THE REMIXES' IS BEING RELEASED ON VINYL

Flashback: David Bowie Hits Number One With 'Fame'

It was 47 years ago today (September 20th, 1975) that David Bowie scored his first Number One hit with "Fame." The tune, which came as a result of a jam session with John Lennon and guitarist Carlos Alomar -- who wrote the song's distinctive riff -- topped the charts for two straight weeks, knocking Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" out of the top spot.

Lennon has been helping Bowie with his blue-eyed-soul Young American album, and had contributed guitar to the "Thin White Duke's" cover of his Beatles classic "Across The Universe."

Only days before his death in 1980, John Lennon looked back fondly on his brief -- but powerful -- collaboration with David Bowie: "Bowie was around and we were talkin' and that -- he'd say, 'Come down,' and I found myself doin' that. So, he's fiddlin' round, he writes 'em in the studio. Y'know, he goes in with about four words and a few guys and stars layin' down this stuff. And he has virtually nothing -- he's makin' it up in the studio. So, I just contributed whatever I contributed, y'know? Like, backwards piano and (sings) 'oooh,' and a couple of things -- repeat of 'Fame.' And then we needed a middle-eight, so we took some Stevie Wonder middle-eight and did it backwards (laughs), y'know -- we made a record out of it, right? So, he got his first Number One -- so I felt that was, like, a karmic thing, y'know, with me and Elton (John) I got my first Number One (with 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night') and I passed it on to Bowie and he got his first Number One -- and I like that track, y'know?"

It would be nearly eight years until David Bowie hit the top spot for the second and final time, with the Nile Rodgers-produced smash "Let's Dance."

Jim Croce Remembered

It was 49 years ago today (September 20th, 1973) that singer-songwriter Jim Croce died in a plane crash in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Croce had performed that night at Northwestern State University and was scheduled to spend the night in Natchitoches and fly to Dallas the next day, but due to a last minute change of plans, Croce and guitarist Maury Muehleisen left immediately after the show. Their plane crashed shortly after taking off, killing all six passengers on board. Jim Croce was 30-years-old.

Croce is best remembered for his early '70s hits such as the Number One "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," "Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels)," "You Don't Mess Around With Jim," "I Got A Name," and "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song."

In the weeks and months after his death, Croce's album sales soared when "Time In A Bottle" became a posthumous Number One hit. His son A.J. Croce, who was only two years old when his father died, is now a successful jazz musician. A.J. explained how his father's music continues to inspire him: "His influence on me was there as a songwriter and a storyteller, because he was a great storyteller. That's usually all I can say about it because that influence on my songwriting is a great part of it, because I realized that the importance of the story. . . Well, if there's not a good story there, then there's no point in doing the song."

A.J. -- a father of two adult children -- recently released a cover of his father's posthumous 1973 hit "I Got A Name," which was commissioned for a new Goodyear campaign saluting retired racecar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. He told us that he's come to connect with his father through their shared love of the same music: "When I first even attempted any of his stuff, it was really overwhelming. I've played 'Croce Plays Croce' kind of concerts where I do a tribute to my father's music, and I play my stuff -- and I play the stuff that really connects us. We have a lot in common, because, y'know, I grew up listening to his record collection."

Recently published is I Got A Name: The Jim Croce Story, written by his widow, A.J.'s mom, Ingrid Croce, with her current husband, Jimmy Rock.

In August 2013, the Croce estate released the critically acclaimed archival album, Jim Croce: The Lost Recordings. The collection features demos recorded between 1970 and 1972 along with live tracks from 1973.

John Bonham's Grandson Releases New Single

John Bonham's grandson -- and the son of Jason Bonham -- Jaeger Henry Bonham -- has just dropped his latest punk-flavored single, titled, "Hate Me."

The tattooed rock royal spoke to Ultimate-Guitar.com about the new single explaining, "I was in the studio one night after a long day, and my producer Omer Biton and I started to make a beat with some drums and bass. All of a sudden the day had just started turning into lyrics."

Bonham -- who only uses his first and middle name for his recording -- shed light on why he's cast aside the famous moniker: "I was always talked about due to my last name, so I thought why not switch it up a little and just basically took my last name and replaced it with my middle name and it had a nice ring to it."

Lady Gaga Cancels Final Tour Stop Due To Lightning Storm

Lady Gaga shared a tearful message after having to cancel her Miami concert over the weekend.

Following the show, she explained on Instagram that her concert was abruptly stopped because of a dangerous lightning storm.

She wrote, "We really tried to finish the show tonight in Miami but we couldn't, because even when the rain sort of stopped, there was lightning that was striking right down to the ground so close to us."

In tears she told fans that she wanted to do the responsible thing and make sure that everyone was safe.

The Miami concert was the final stop of her international Chromatica Ball tour. The stadium trek was postponed twice due to the pandemic.

Peter Frampton To Play Seated For Final Shows

Peter Frampton revealed in a new interview with Classic Rock magazine that he'll be performing sitting down on his upcoming final shows in Europe. Back in October 2019 Frampton wrapped an exhaustive North American trek after being forced to slowly quit the road upon discovering he's suffering from a degenerative muscle disease called Inclusion-Body Myositus (IBM), that slowly weakens the body's muscles.

Frampton was set to play his final shows across Europe with a full scale tour during the spring of 2020 -- until the pandemic sidelined his plans. As it stands now, eight shows are now on the books, with the Grammy-winning guitarist hitting England, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, France, and The Netherlands.

Frampton explained where he's at health-wise these days: "Well. . . my legs are not good, and I've decided I am going to sit down on these upcoming tour dates in Europe. I can't stand. That would be dangerous for me now, because I get so carried away when I'm playing that I'm liable to fall over (laughs). It's starting to affect my hands, but not enough yet, so I can still play a good lick. But I'll be honest, I'm so anxious about it. I haven't played over there in so long, and I have progressed in my disease. . . I sat down for the first time (at Buddy Holly's 85th Birthday Celebration) and. . . it felt very comfortable (laughs)."

When pressed about any specific regrets he's had over his decades in the business, Frampton admitted, "Only two things: I would've waited to make an album after Comes Alive!, and never put out I'm In You. Breaking All The Rules would've been a much better follow-up record. And I wouldn't have done the Sgt. Pepper movie."

Although Peter Frampton was able to stay an arena attraction throughout the end of the '70s, he feels that his career never recovered from the multi-platinum success of the live album. He said that his career nose-dived after Frampton Comes Alive! because there was no place left to go beyond its phenomenon: "No one knew how to make a record after that, because no one had ever made a record that huge. So that's where I was looking for professional help from those people that represented me. But the only person that really knew the answer to any question that I would ask -- was me. Because, here I am asking all these people what I should do, because hell, this is the biggest record in history."

Post Malone Takes Bad Fall On Stage, Has To Cancel Show

Post Malone stepped into a large hole on the stage during his concert on Saturday night (September 17) and had to cancel the rest of the show.

More than mid-way through his performance in St. Louis, he accidentally fell into an open trap door. At the time, it was being used to lower his guitar.

After crashing hard on the stage floor, he clutched his ribcage. He was taken in the back for quick medical attention and about 15 minutes later, clearly in pain, he canceled the rest of the show.

He was taken to the hospital and later posted an apology and thanked his fans for their understanding. He said he was on painkillers and was winded, but would be able to continue with his tour.

Although Malone played 17 of his 22 songs scheduled, he promised St Louis that he would make it up to them with a two hour show the next time he's in town.

TL;DR:

  • Post Malone stepped into an open trap door in the stage and had to cancel the concert.
  • At the time, it had been used to lower his guitar.

Definitive Brian Wilson & Beach Boys Bio Back In Print This Week

For the first time in 37 years, the only book that can accurately be dubbed the definitive tale of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys is finally back in print. Coming on Thursday (September 22nd) via Omnibus Press is author David Leaf's eagerly awaited and extended God Only Knows: The Story Of Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys And The California Myth. The book now features newly written contributions from Paul McCartney and Barry Gibb, an introduction by Jimmy Webb, and notes by Brian's wife, Melinda Wilson.

The new version of the classic tome features both his 1985 update and a new, nearly-150-page 2022 look back over Leaf's life and work with Wilson, which included co-producing the groundbreaking 1993 Good Vibrations: Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys box set, which at Leaf's gentle urging, featured the first extended crop of unreleased SMiLE material to reach the general public. In 2001, Leaf conceived and wrote An All-Star Tribute To Brian Wilson -- yet another important step in Wilson reconnecting with his long-buried SMiLE music.

Most notably, Leaf -- who has never been employed by WFilson -- played a crucial role in shepherding Wilson into a safe zone that would allow for SMiLE to finally be staged for a concert audience. Leaf's 2004 documentary Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson And The Story Of SMiLE, chronicled not only the deep and sordid tale of the brilliance and ultimate failure of Wilson's 1967 Beach Boys opus -- but how in late-2003, Wilson rallied with original collaborator Van Dyke Parks and musical director Darian Sahanaja to revisit the material that led the way to a Grammy Award-winning globally revered live, studio, and archival project.

As Brian Wilson said in the book's press release: "For over 30 years I've trusted David Leaf with my music and my story. The 2001 Radio City tribute to me was a highlight of my career. And his SMiLE film Beautiful Dreamer was one of the reasons I was able to finally finish the record. He's a true friend."

David Leaf added: "When I wrote the original (edition of The California Myth), I was 25 and an intense, driven journalist on a mission to uncover the truth about Brian Wilson's life. In the wake of the publication of the 1978 edition I became Brian's friend and occasionally his partner on landmark projects. Now as an 'elder statesman' in Brian's life and story, this reminiscence is a celebration of Brian's 80th birthday. . . In telling these stories, my wish is to provide a wealth of information that will give the reader unexpected and invaluable insights into the man behind the myth."

We caught up to David Leaf and asked him to shed light on his journey in telling the tale of one of the 20th century's most important and beloved figures: "Y'know, I got what I wished for and I have no regrets. Because what I was able to do was create a book that now is a redemption story -- as opposed to a 'what if?' story. And, so, regardless of all the things that I went through that, for the most part, I didn't write about, because I wanted this to be a celebration of what this man accomplished -- despite being abused from almost the moment he came out of the womb. Y'know, he uses the line all the time -- 'My last name is Wilson, so I guess I have a lot of willpower.' This is a guy. . . he took so much, and from an artistic point of view, I wonder whether his music would've been as powerful and emotional and affecting if he hadn't been abused the way he was."

At the core of the Beach Boys' sound was the blood connection between Brian and younger brothers -- the both sadly departed Dennis and Carl Wilson: "There was a connection -- an inexplicable connection between the brothers, that unless you have brothers, you're never going to understand. And Brian, Dennis, and Carl had that. So, when you watch the clip of them doing 'I'm Bugged At My Old Man,' you see something that is. . . that is, really -- it's, like, a private revelation of that connection. That's the DNA of the Beach Boys. The family harmony blend that Brian taught them. That's the DNA of the Beach Boys that matters to me."

Brian Wilson felt as though David Leaf's Beautiful Dreamer doc showed the joy and fear and disappointment in the loss of SMiLE -- but ultimately the incredible sense of accomplishment he felt in finally sharing his vision with the world: "It was an experience in sentimentality. It was very sentimental. I was interviewed for hours and hours, and when they showed me, when I saw the documentary, I almost got tears because it was so revealing, very revealing, about my life."

David Leaf, who is now an adjunct professor at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, is also renowned for such documentaries as 2001's The Bee Gees: This Is Where I Came In; 2006's The U.S. vs. John Lennon; and 2008's The Night James Brown Saved Boston, among others.

Ozzy Osbourne Still Has Taylor Hawkins Collaborations In The Can

Ozzy Osbourne has unreleased songs featuring Taylor Hawkins in the can. Both Ozzy and producer Andrew Watt spoke with Rolling Stone while promoting the new Prisoner Number 9 album. Watt explained that for the album, they enlisted the help of Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chat Smith along with Hawkins -- with the track "God Only Knows " featuring both drummers. Watt revealed, "There's a bunch of other stuff with Ozzy and Taylor, as well, that's going to be used for another thing." No word yet on what that project might be or when it might see release.

Ozzy also took time out to address the early-'80s Eddie Van Halen - Randy Rhodes feud: "I heard recently that Eddie said he taught Randy all his licks. . . he never (did). To be honest, Randy didn't have a nice thing to say about Eddie. Maybe they had a falling out or whatever, but they were rivals."

    • He went on to say, "If there was someone who was capable of assembling bands, I'd love to be part of something. I'd rather it wasn't fighting Russia. Flashback: Simon & Garfunkel Reunite In Central Park

It was 41 years ago today (September 19th, 1981) that Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited in front of a reported 500,000 fans for a free concert in New York's Central Park. Although the duo had performed together several times after their 1970 break up -- most notably at a fundraiser in 1972 for Democratic Presidential nominee George McGovern, a handful of times in 1973 during Simon's first solo tour, and on Saturday Night Live -- The Concert In Central Park was Simon & Garfunkel's first full-blown reunion show. Back in 1975, Simon & Garfunkel scored a Top 10 duet with "My Little Town" in 1975, with the song appearing on both Simon's album, Still Crazy After All These Years and Garfunkel's Breakaway.

Prior to the Central Park show, Simon & Garfunkel butted heads about how the concert should be performed. Garfunkel preferred just the duo as they did in the '60s; two voices along with Simon's guitar. Simon insisted on a full band, including a horn section. Simon explained in Simon & Garfunkel - The Definitive Biography how he convinced Garfunkel to see his way: "I kept saying to him 'Artie, the band will jell and when it does, you'll want to sing. You'll like it.'" The majority of the backing band was familiar with the songs' arrangements, having backed Simon on his then-recent One Trick Pony tour.

The show was mainly comprised of Simon & Garfunkel's '60s classics, including "Homeward Bound," "America," "The Sound Of Silence," "Mrs. Robinson," "The Boxer," "Old Friends," "April Come She Will," "Scarborough Fair," "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)," "America," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and others.

The duo also performed several of Simon's '70s hits, such as "Kodachrome," "Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard," "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover," "Still Crazy After All These Years," "Slip Slidin' Away," "American Tune," and Simon's latest hit, 1980's "Late In The Evening," which was featured twice in the show, being reprised as the concert's final encore. The pair made two nods to early influences, playing the Everly Brothers' "Wake Up Little Suzie," and performing Chuck Berry's "Maybellene" in a medley with Simon's "Kodachrome."

In 2018, Art Garfunkel looked back to the 1981 concert, recalling to The Daily Gazette, "It was Central Park, we were full of joy, and I can tell you a singer gets very happy when he performs in front of 500,000 people. It was thrilling to be in front of an enormous crowd of that size. It tells you that they're saying, 'we love you, big time,' and that made us very, very happy."

Aside from being arguably the first major rock event of the 1980's; culturally, the concert marked one of the music's most important forces coming full circle. Shortly before his 2012 death, legendary New York City DJ Pete Fornatale -- who authored the book Simon And Garfunkel's Bookends -- recalled to us that by the end of 1968, Simon & Garfunkel's fame had crossed generational boundaries in much the same way the Beatles' music had: "This was the point where the perfect storm had happened, and Simon & Garfunkel were taken from a very formidable level of success into the stratosphere. The soundtrack from The Graduate, (the) Bookends (album) -- all these new fans, older fans, moms and dads discovering them by going to the movies to see one of the great motion pictures of the '60s. That brought a whole new audience into the tent, and they were ready to consume anything by Simon & Garfunkel that was out there."

Art Garfunkel first sang Simon's "American Tune" at the duo's reunion show in Central Park, and has kept it in his solo shows ever since then: "I love Paul's 'American Tune,' and felt such an identity with that kind of song, it's a Bach chorale, that I do it in my show all the time. I never recorded it, but I identify with it, I kind of made it mine. Because it was in the nature of the material. There's a bunch of Paul's things over the years that kill me that I could do my own version of it. Yeah, I suppose that's an interesting album, Garfunkel Does Simon."

Although it was left off the live album of the event, Simon debuted "The Late Great Johnny Ace," a tribute to John Lennon, at the Central Park show. In a disturbing moment on the home video version of the concert, a fan can be seen running onstage demanding to speak to Simon. The song was eventually released on Simon's 1983 album Hearts And Bones.

On May 20th, 1982 Paul Simon appeared on Late Night with David Letterman and spoke about the incident. He was asked by Letterman if he ever worried for his safety while on stage: "I always considered it, and of course, after John Lennon's murder, you have a heightened. . . a heightened awareness of it. My reaction when that guy came up on stage was: ‘He's messed up the song.' (David Letterman): (Laughs) That's interesting. (Paul Simon): 'What's happened?' It's a new song, it's hard enough for anybody to grasp a new song -- especially if I'm just singing it with just a guitar and now this guy's come and he's messed up the song. My reaction at the time was not one of fear; and neither was Art's reaction. He was sitting on the stage."

The film of the concert was shown the next year on HBO, with the soundtrack album hitting Number Six in the spring of 1982. The duo's live cover of "Wake Up Little Susie" was also a minor hit that spring, peaking at Number 27.

Renowned journalist, and three-time Associated Press Sports Editors award-winner Kevin Brockway was just 10-years-old when he and his family made their way into Central Park for Brockway's first ever concert: "I remember it raining, right in the middle of the afternoon. We had gotten there four or five hours early before the start of the concert -- and we were still about three quarters of the way back and it was so many people, right? There's 500,000 people, that whole mass of humanity and as a ten-year-old, it was a little intimidating."

Brockway's memories remain vivid nearly 40 years on: "I remember Ed Koch, y'know, the mayor at the time, introducing Simon & Garfunkel. But, y'know, what was beautiful? I remember 'America' and I think that was, what, the second or third song? 'Scarborough Fair'. . . There were so many beautiful songs. The encores; 'Sound Of Silence,' 'The Boxer' It seems like every song they raised the bar, they really raised it up a level -- but the harmonizing on 'America' I thought was really beautiful. That's a song that stuck with me many years later."

He went on to say that the concert seemed to leave the crowd equally joyous and hopeful: "We thought then that maybe this was, like, this great reunion -- but was it really gonna last, y'know? And when you look back on it, Paul Simon really had a renaissance in the '80s as a solo artist. But, Simon & Garfunkel themselves, I didn't know if it was gonna last. So, I think that's part of what really what made it really so special is the fact that we got that moment of them being together onstage and putting on, y'know, one of those. . . the epic performance that really, y'know, people watch and listen to to this day."

Paul Simon admitted that the 1981 Central Park reunion with Art Garfunkel rates highly in his list of achievements: "We played then for, I think it was about a half-a-million people. It's not the size so much, it's that I was, like, right across the street from where I lived. That I was in my home city; and of course people came from all over, so, that would, yeah. . . certainly that's one of the things when I think about my career, I think of that."

After the success of Central Park, Simon & Garfunkel spent the better part of 1982 and 1983 touring Europe and North America. Although plans for a reunion album fell through in 1983, the pair reunited live in 1993 and again for their Old Friends tour in 2003-2004, along with dates in 2009.

The long out-of-print Simon & Garfunkel: The Concert In Central Park was recently made available for the first time on DVD as part of a collectible CD/DVD set, as well as a 12-inch 180-gram audiophile vinyl LP.

Expanded Pink Floyd 'Animals' Edition Out At Last!

The wait is over! After several years of delays amid squabbling between former-bandmates Roger Waters and David Gilmour over the album's liner notes -- the 2018 remix of Pink Floyd's Animals is finally here. The beloved five-track 1977 set, which was sandwiched between 1975's Wish You Were Here and 1979's double-album opus The Wall, has received its first-ever 5.1 Stereo Sound release, and is available on vinyl, CD, Blu-ray, and SACD.

Animals, Pink Floyd's 10th studio album, was released on January 21st, 1977 and has sold over four million copies in the U.S. to date. Animals hit Number Three on the Billboard 200 and spent five weeks in the Top 10. In England, the album peaked at Number Two.

The tracklisting to Pink Floyd's Animals is: "Pigs On The Wing (Part One)," "Dogs," "Pigs (Three Different Ones)," "Sheep," and "Pigs On The Wing (Part Two)."

Drummer Nick Mason explained to us why he felt the recent remix of Animals was justified: "The problem with Animals was the technology that was used on it was not quite up to the standard of previous and post albums. We had a very good engineer -- Brian Humphries -- who we had worked with before, but it just lacked, this sort of, whole corporate Abbey Road technology."

Upon its release in 1977, Roger Waters spoke frankly to British radio about the themes running throughout the album: "Let it be said that although the violence is tempered with sadness and even a smidgen of compassion here and there -- it is a very violent album. They're quite violent songs. And so, that's why that music is a bit punchier. I've had the idea of Animals in the back of my mind for a number of years." (19 OC: . . . number of years.)

Waters admitted he was especially proud of the album's iconic and cutting edge artwork: "I quite like the very crude symbolism of Battersea Power Station, anyway. The four phallic towers and the idea of power, I find rather appealing in a strange way. The pig, the flying pig; I don't know, I never tried to put it all into words, really. The flying pig is a symbol of hope."

Hipgnosis' Aubrey "Po" Powell and his late partner Storm Thorgerson, conceived and created the Animals cover art -- along legendary and timeless album and singles covers for Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney & Wings, Yes, the Scorpions, AC/DC, Peter Frampton, Black Sabbath, Styx, 10cc, and countless others.

Powell explained that the company's work, spearheaded by himself and Storm Thorgerson, played on each other's strengths: "Well, Hipgnosis worked as an art house. Storm and I were the main designers for that company -- but we employed other people to cop me and work with us. And so, when we wanted something done, it had to be done in our way; exactly right, but we couldn't do everything. I mean, I'm not an illustrator, I'm not a guy who does graphics; I'm a guy who looks through a camera and knows about composition, and with Storm, knew what a great idea was. So, we had to share the load. So we began to creative our own style."

The deluxe limited edition four-disc set of Animals features:

Cardi B Pleads Guilty To Beating Up Strippers; Sentenced To Community Service

Cardi B pleaded guilty yesterday (September 15th) to two misdemeanor charges for her role in a 2018 bottle throwing incident at a Queens strip club. According to TMZ, as part of her plea, Cardi has agreed to 15 days of community service.

If she fails to complete the community service, she will have to serve 15 days in jail.

Cardi B said in a statement, "Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it's a practice that I am trying to instill in my children, but the example starts with me."

She continued, "I've made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to. These moments don't define me and they are not reflective of who I am now. I'm looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most — the music and my fans."

The rapper appeared in court with two co-defendants, who also pleaded guilty to their roles. All three agreed to stay away from the two female victims.
